"We are regular visitors to the Loire Valley. We certainly have, over the years, eaten in many restaurants in the area. In our current few days stay at Onzaine, we had two dinners at Madeleine de Proust, on both occasions the restaurant was fully booked,...customers without booking were turned away. The restaurant changed chef/proprietor las year. The new young chef has made a complete change, from decor to cooking style. All for the better. You can have one course for €15 two for €23 or three for €30. Don’t miss out, have three courses. The two cocktails on offer, one alcoholic the other none are not worth the money. But you are compensated by having an offering of a small cup of asparagus purée and a small madeleine cake. But still not worth the money. The wines are ok, nothing special, prices on the high side Try the whiteTouraine it is a local wine reasonably priced, the vineyard is across the river at Onzaine. My wife and I had almost the same order on both visits, as the food was so good. We started with graveleux and lobster ravioli, both were excellent, the ravioli sauce was warm beurre blank, and made all the difference. Main course was halibut on a bed of beautifully shredded vegetables in a white wine sauce. The fish was very fresh and cooked to perfection. The deserts, included madeleines on white chocolat sauce with strawberry and ice cream. The madeleines made in the traditional shape, served still warm. This is one of the best traditional small French restaurants still around. Two people were serving, a young man (still learning and a young woman, efficient, charming, and will try her best to explain the dishes in English. But don’t be concerned, the menue on a board in French English. So no problem if you have little or no French."
