"When we booked out trip to Collioure we logged onto TripAdvisor and checked out the local restaurants. Le Neptune was one that really caught our eye and we were looking forward to visiting during our stay. There were 6 in our party and when we first arrived we were shown into the dining room. This was an almost completely glass room that was incredibly hot. There were blinds down so we couldn't really see out and although the door was open and one of 3 fans running it was like sitting in a green house. Incredibly hot. When we asked for the fans to be switched on or the air conditioning to be activated we were told that they had to wait for the sun to drop behind the castle and that there was nothing they could do about nature. It was not until around 8:30 that they opened the roof an lifted the blinds. Now why they couldn't have opened the roof earlier I don't know. If they can't open the roof whilst the blinds are down then they need a new roof!!! Once the roof was opened however the temperature dropped and the views of Collioure were revealed and it really was most pleasant. Just a pity that it was so uncomfortable for the first hour. The 2 children with us had the child's menu and I have to say they are the best kids meals I've ever tasted. One had Cod fillet and pasta and the other had veal and crushed potatoes. Both were superb. The veal especially was melt in the mouth and stunning for a child's meal. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said for the rest of the dishes. We all ate from the Gourmet menu which was a fixed menu for 39 Euros. I had the Tuna for a starter which was incredibly bland. There was simply not enough seasoning. It looked nice though. I had the Pork for the main which was essentially a large pork chop. It was topped with a mini pepper stuffed with mashed potatoes and garlic and accompanied with a red pepper and chorizo sauce. The stuffed pepper was delicious, as was the sauce, but the pork was tough and tasteless. My dessert was L'Entremet Catalan which was probably the best of the desserts. All the dishes ordered by my family told a similar tale. They were 'OK' but lacked seasoning and just whilst they looked great they just didn't provide the flavour you'd expect. My wife, for example, ordered 'La Pomme' for dessert. It looked incredible but tasted of plain whipped cream. Very disappointing. The service was OK. I liked our waiter but others didn't. The best service came from a younger lady who I believe was training. She was friendly, chatty and a credit to the restaurant. The whole experience at Le Neptune was unfortunately rather forgettable. There is nothing wrong with it but it's just not very special."

"What a disappointment! We were a table of four and all ordered the 10 course menu believing that in that way we would get the most variety and really see what the chef had to offer. Every single dish was either fish or seafood. We recognized that this restaurant is by the sea but never in our imagination would we have expected that every single course would be fish or seafood. They even put caviar on the dessert. All of the courses just started to blend together without real differences in flavor or texture. They certainly didn't highlight what the whole region has to offer. You get no choice over what dishes you get although they do ask you if there are things that you really don't like (I don't know what they would have done had I said I don't love seafood for every course, bit I didn't think I would have to say that), and then at the end they give you a list of all the things that you might have had if only they had decided to bring those to you. So don't get excited about the dessert that the people at the table next to you have because chances are you won't be getting it. We certainly expected some fish and seafood but not for it ALL to be. We will not ever go back and in fact it just turned us off trying any restaurant where they don't tell you in advance what you will be getting. Sad. Happily we ended our trip at a one star restaurant in Paris that was better in every way, except the view."

"Le Jardin de Collioure is (not surprisingly) a garden based restaurant in a lovely old monastery courtyard. You're essentially sat outside yet are sheltered from any wind by the surrounding walls. It's a lovely environment in which to eat.The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient and were happy to recommend dishes and wines. They were knowledgeable about what they were suggesting too. There were 6 of us on our two visits including 2 children. The kids both had the grilled sausage which is delicious. It's nice to see children's dishes being the same quality as the rest of the food. The rest of us all ate from the 38 Euro fixed menu. My wife and I had the Foie Gras to start and it was incredible. I've never tasted better. It's apparently made by the chef. For a main I had the Beef Fillet in mirror sauce with Banyuls(a local spirit). I have my steak cooked blue and it was done to perfection. The sauce was delicious and the accompaniments were perfect. Just enough to leave you satisfied. For dessert I had the Profiteroles which was actually one massive profiterole and was as good as the rest of the courses. My family all enjoyed their meals just as much as I did. The incredible quality of the food, including the children's menu, the excellent, friendly service and the beautiful surroundings make a trip the Le Jardin one to remember. It was so good we went twice during our week in Collioure and were equally impressed the second time.I can't recommend this restaurant enough. It is the perfect holiday eating experience and if I'm ever in the area the first place I'll go to eat."
