"Perfect late summer evening. Gorgeous colors. Resident cat lapping from the fountain. Across from a church, with names of villagers lost in WWI, WWII and Algeria. The tinny bell tolled on the hour. For us that was 5 times from 7 to 11. Know beforehand...this is an experience that cannot be rushed or revealed until you are seated. When we made the reservation we were asked about food allergies. The menu is fixed and changes daily. The wife of the chef does a beautiful, almost mesmerizing presentation of the courses. We asked her to create a flight of wines to go with our meal. She is either very intuitive or has secret powers. Spot on for us. We had 2 whites, a slightly chilled red and shared a red dessert wine. First course had steak tartare with herbs and herring fish eggs, octopus and mussels. 2nd course fresh trout with purée of smoked eggplant, 3rd eel with cabbage and crunchy bits, 4th was pork, artichokes, and anchovies. Then there was an emulsion of blue cheese and the dessert was a dark chocolate bombe with gold bits on top and some kind of biscuit inside, accompanied by hazelnut ice cream. Had I known, I might not have ordered several of the dishes. But it was a night of marvels and learning. Maybe even magical. No wrong notes. Amazing sauces. Seasoned perfectly. 4 stars because 5 church bells is a long meal for us. We had a 7:30 reservation. Last group seated was close to 9:30. We were the first to leave. About 20 spaces outdoors. We live in Switzerland. The cost of the meal and the wines came to about 156€. Not a single complaint on that score. Challenging to get a reservation. Please plan in advance."
