"We visited the Lido Restaurant on 3rd June, for a business dinner which we had booked several weeks in advance. The original booking was for 28 people, however, only 25 people were able to attend in the end. Unfortunately, the whole evening was a complete disappointment. We pre-ordered a 4-course meal, which consisted of four, tiny portions of food. The plates themselves looked pretty, but the taste was not up to the standard we experienced previously in 2012. Each meal was sweet, whether it was a vegetable course, a fish soup, a main course or a dessert (which is the only course that should have been that sweet!). All the flavour combinations were very strange, so we are quite certain the chef/management must have changed. Bearing in mind most of our guests were from the Middle East, so not drinking alcohol, particularly because Ramadan was about to start, we were quite shocked when we received the bill. They had charged us for 14 bottles of wine, when only 6 people had been drinking!! I’m quite sure if we had consumed that amount, we would have been carried out! Obviously an argument ensued, where we were spoken to in an extremely rude and inappropriate manner. They had charged us for 28 meals, despite only 25 people attending, which we did not question, but we were not happy to pay for the absurd amount of wine they were trying to charge us for. It’s safe to say that we will never go back. Definitely the type of place that tries to rip tourists off thinking they will never go back so it doesn’t matter. We were so embarrassed by the situation and quality of food & service in front of our guests; all very important business people from around the world. It’s such a shame such a restaurant in a lovely location has become like this."
