"We had a lovey one night stay at The Globe in Wells, it was a last minute idea as they were offering a good value Dinner, Bed and Breakfast offer. The food was ok, not outstanding or different, and very expensive. The menu seemed muddled, with a couple of more expensive home cooked' dishes such as slow cooked beef brisket to fast food' type dishes such as burger Fortunately our Dinner, Bed and Breakfast offer compensated for the overpriced yet underwhelming food. Starters were priced around the mark, which is certainly a lot for some mushrooms on two pieces of very thin standard white bread cut into circles! The cheapest selection on the main menu was for a pulled pork burger and frozen' quick cook fries. Desserts are around the brownie was yum and actually seemed worth the price, with ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauce. But overall the food didn't feel special. The staff, particularly the restaurant manager, were friendly and made our dog feel very welcome. We were disappointed with the bar choices, a lot of the ales were off leaving my husband with two choices, an ale and a lager, and when I asked for a Vodka Martini I was told this was unavailable, even though a bottle of Martini and a bottle of Vodka were sitting in front of me on the bar shelf...perhaps the uncharismatic barman didn't know how to make one? We did have a lovely stay at The Globe, it felt special as we treated ourselves last minute, and we got such a good offer with the room rates, but it was a shame that the food and drink part let it down."

"We had Sunday Lunch and were warmly welcomed and pleasantly surprised to see two dog treats on our table for our two dogs. The experience got even better as we were given two complimentary glasses of Prosecco as we had mentioned it was a special occasion on booking form. We also had a great table over looking the marshes and migrating birds. All very lovely. The food was exceptional as well the roast beef was superb as were the two puddings we chose. However after the initial very warm welcome we found the service a bit lacking. This got much worse when a late table of six arrived and we were subsequently ignored to the point we had to ask for our main plates to be cleared and whilst the waitress asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu she never actually returned with the menus. After 15 minutes or so we had to then flag down someone else for those. Then no one came and took the pudding order for another 15 minutes and again we ended up flagging down a waiter who went and got another waiter ? who eventually took our order for pudding. If it hadn’t been a special occasion I think we would’ve given up before this and gone home after the main course. The same thing happened with getting and paying the bill; we went up to the bar to do that in the end as we waited so long. It’s a shame as the staff were very friendly and attentive to start with, but then sort of forgot about us. Didn’t make us feel particularly valued in the end."
