"Great little place just a short drive from Llangollen, we stayed here en route to our final destination in north wales for a long weekend. Made to feel very welcome upon arrival, with one young lady showing us to our room which was a nice, traditional touch. There was no wine list, so couldn’t really see what the choices were before ordering, resulting in quite a steep price for a bottle for us to share (we did ask but we’re told they hadn’t been printed). The food in the hotel itself is relatively average and quite dry, so wouldn’t particularly rush back to dine there. We had booked a superior room, which is advertised as having a working coffee machine, but this wasn’t the case when we got to the room. A standard kettle and a few tea bags and coffee sachets isn’t quite what we were expecting. The room’s linen was wonderful and overall spectacularly clean. Breakfast as a whole was adequate and continental, which is a dreadful shame considering where the property is located. They could easily support local suppliers to produce an excellent cooked breakfast, even if it had come at an extra cost I’d have happily paid it. To conclude, and even as a young person, I feel obliged to have to point out that the absence of ‘managerial/experienced oversight’ was definitely noticeable, which placed employees sometimes in difficult situations when being asked about drink and food choices. When questioned, the site manager seemed a little more interested in running the newly purchased/acquired pub; The Oak, just up the road from the hotel. I understand colleagues need time to use their initiative, but one colleague had stated it was her first day. Overall I have to say poor leadership. Despite this, the place is clean, comfortable and ideally situated if you’re looking for a one/two night stay."

"Went for their Carvery meal to celebrate the Mother-In-Law 's 90th birthday and had to pay a deposit beforehand as had a party of 15 (not heard of that before) and also had to book our meals in advance. With being registered Coeliac with a Gluten-Free diet I have to know they can cater for me to which they weren 't really very helpful with the wording going along the lines of we think we can cater for you which for the prices they charge is not really the attitude you would expect. I ordered their Carvery meal and a G/F crumble custard. We turned up today and were told the crumble wasn 't available so what was the point in ordering in advance? I went for my carvery and had to enquire at what was available to me only for the chef/server to have to ask what there was grrrrrr. The Yorkshire puddings were right next to the roasters and all the customers were taking them with their tongs OVER the roasters which would 've then caused cross-contamination when bits fell into the roaster tray! Those said roasters were rock hard by the way! The beef I had was gristly and that gristle would not cut with the knife, the turkey was dry and I struggled to chew and swallow it, there was no white normal mashed potatoes but a mocked up mash of carrot turnip so don 't know if there were any potatoes in it really! I then had an Eton mess for pudding and it was so sharp with the jelly/juice it was unpalatable! So, I didn 't have a nice experience at all really!"
