Afternoon Tea at Radisson Blu Edwardian Sussex

We had a delightful last-minute afternoon tea for two, which catered to one person with Coeliac disease.

Nice hotel. I had tea after Christmas shopping in London. It had a great location and was nice and quiet.

To be completely honest, I’ve had many afternoons in various places around London, but this experience was the least enjoyable. My daughter and I were the only ones in the restaurant, which created a lack of atmosphere—there was no music or anything to help us relax. There seemed to be too many staff members with nothing to do, with about five of them just standing around. The food itself was average; each dish didn’t taste particularly fresh. The scones were hard and dry, and they appeared to have been frozen before serving. Our tea was refilled only once, which I had expected. There were no adjustments made to the menu for children. I wouldn’t choose to visit again.

I must say, I was disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. Having tried many afternoon teas in London, this was definitely the least enjoyable. My daughter and I were the only ones in the restaurant, which lacked any atmosphere or music to create a relaxing vibe. The scones were hard and dry, and the patisserie seemed like it had been frozen before serving. In the end, this was amazing and we'll keep it in mind for a return visit, but for the mains rather than the tea. We originally booked for afternoon tea at short notice. This was attempted by the kitchen but not to a very good standard. We were thoroughly impressed and pleased with the attentiveness that we were given when we complained and they realised that the food offered did not constitute the wow experience that you should expect from afternoon tea. We instead ordered from the main menu with no charge for the tea (which went uneaten beyond the first few dried-out sandwiches). Both the steak and the lobster were excellent in quality and value.
