"In the Altona Nord district of Hamburg, and a little out of the way, but definitely worth a visit for a number of reasons, not least for the varied and interesting selection of tapas available. The restaurant itself is contained in what looks like a greenhouse...from the outside, but even in winter it was kept warm enough. It was very busy, too a testament to its undoubted popularity and so a lovely ambience of happily chatting diners. You mark off the items you want from a checklist type menu. Be careful not to over order it’s easily done! We were a little guilty of this, but somehow we managed to leave very little behind. Of note were the fried calamari, the rabbit stew (generous portions and pork (I think! skewers there’s a variety of skewers to choose from, and they were all good but the pork were especially tender flavourful. To be honest, you’d be hard pressed to choose badly. The waitress we had was lovely, friendly, helpful, and genuinely made us feel like she was thoroughly enjoying her job in serving us. Top marks to her, and also the staff at the bar where you enter the establishment, who only enhanced the fun vibe of the place. We over ate and over drank. Thankfully I didn’t have far to stumble back to my hotel."

We had grilled calamari, spinach tart and patatas bravas, everything excellent. The white Rioja can be recommended.

You can find here great tapas. Just that I find it a bit loud, not a big deal, but I guess that depends on your mood ;

I work near this restaurant, i'm walk by this restaurant for 9 years now. But i was never inside it because it doesn't open at lunch time. Yesterday i was here for dinner and it was really great. Polite and fast service. The tapas were...good, however they could be a little hotter (this prevents the restaurant to get rating of 5, but they were still very tasty). The coconut ice in half a coconut shell was great. Ver carta

On a cold November night, went with friends to Altamira. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. From what i saw, i believe it has its fair share of regulars. Not sure if they have menus in English, but i did not care as i was...with German friends (and i know how to order beer). We chose about 12 tapas between the three of us and that was plenty! Everything was tasty and so well prepared! Looooved the croquettas and the octopus salad. It is really a great, unpretentious place to go with friends.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember.The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity.The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
