"This is a review for takeout. We ordered a Thai takeaway for a family of 4 adults and found it to be expensive, costing over £84 with a pre-set delivery charge and service charge included. Although I don't mind paying for good food, the portion sizes did not match the price we paid. The hot and sour soup was served in a tiny plastic bowl with minimal prawns and mushrooms, lacking substance. The prawn toasts and spring rolls were extremely small, almost laughable in size. While the main courses were tasty, the portions were so small that we were left hungry afterwards. Overall, we found the food to be very poor value for money. Although there were no issues with the Deliveroo delivery service, we will not be ordering from this restaurant again."

Nasty and rude staff! Cannot believe service like this exists in Oxford in this day and age. Appalling to say the least

Best Thai food we’ve eaten in a long time. Great setting and friendly staff. Loved it and will certainly be going again.

Complacent, miserable staff and slow. Sat for an hour waiting for mediocre and over spiced food An utterly forgettable experience Ver carta

We had a great evening, we had one of the set menus for the 6 of us, the food was delicious and plentiful. Booked by a friend so on one of the hottest days of the year it was a pleasant surprise to find the restaurant airconditioned which was an added bonus. We would highly recommend the restaurant and will be back.

I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a little girl and it has always been my favorite. The food was delicious, especially the Chicken Thai Red Curry which was the best I have had in a long time. The Salt and Pepper Squid was crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The Prawn Pad Thai was a classic but still delicious, with fresh prawns.

Excellent Thai food restaurant with friendly staff. Thank you S, PO and Gan for you great customer service. Really appreciate your help to fit my family in even though the booking was already full, and your amazing efficiency in serving the food so that we could enjoy the food without worry about missing the train. Will definitely come again if visiting Oxford. Ver carta

Once again a wonderful romantic dinner at The Bangkok House. We have been coming here for over 25 years and it is always a perfect evening. Fantastic Thai food, great location we parked outside and such lovely polite people serving us. It was my husband's birthday and I didn't request anything special but after a fabulous dinner, a pandon cake complete with cream and candle was brought forward! The little lady serving us even sang Happy Birthday! Thank you so much.

The price for the selection of five Thai starters for two was very high for the small portion size we received, costing about £18. The main dishes, pad thai prawn noodles and e sahn on the thrown, were tasty but the latter was around £19. The service was not unfriendly, but it was just the basic minimum and there was an additional service charge. The interior decor of the restaurant was pleasant. In total, the bill came to £70, which we found to be expensive for 2 beers, a small glass of wine, a shared small starter, and mains for two people.

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
