"Due to covid restrictions the restaurant is only supplying pre prepared takeaway meals, but what a treat. Simple re heat instructions left us with a superb meal for two, of five star quality, for less than thirty pounds. I have no idea how they do it.If you're considering a takeaway, give it a try, you're in for a real treat. Many thanks to staff at On the Hill."

"Really saddens me to be writing this, this has been one of my favourite places for over 10 years but this is the second visit in a couple of months where the food has been terrible, and today I don’t feel the staff were overly friendly either. Visited for a birthday treat with friends, had to ask to be served, then the waitress appeared a little miserable. Food came out and I’d ordered a Grilled Halloumi salad, at £10.70 I expected a nice full salad, what I was actually presented with was a small amount of chopped bits at the bottom of a bowl, no eggs as stated and quite frankly no where near enough salad for £10.70! I sent it back for the eggs only for it to then be brought back out with avocado instead and told they had no eggs. I do not like avocado so at this point I sent it back and didn’t eat anything. The member of staff (sue) was apologetic and offered me chips, but I’m currently trying to make better food choices and was looking forward to a nice salad. As this is the second bad visit recently I am afraid I won’t be back. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful place but has really gone downhill recently."

"We decided to book a table here as we were visiting Ruthin and saw that it was dog-friendly. It is in a beautiful, quiet setting with stunning views and has a car park which is free to use for patrons. We took the opportunity to walk the dogs for a couple of miles in the nature reserve opposite, before entering the pub for some food and drink. Both of these were spot on. I tried the Hobgoblin session IPA and Butcombe ale which were both great. My wife had a lime and soda and a glass of Malbec, which was very nice indeed. We shared a starter of Pretzel Breads with Salami and Mustard. My main was the Pork Schnitzel and my wife had the Cheese and Pork Wurst with mash and sauerkraut. All of the food was just perfect. The portions were huge and the quality was spot on. It was all delicious and we were very pleased. I would say it was great value for money. The inside of the pub was large, yet very cosy feeling and the decor was both traditional, welcoming and full of character and stories. The owners are also very welcoming and have stories to tell too! I wish we had been able to stay longer, but we will definitely return for the food, drink, atmosphere and chat. What a find!!! Oh, and Cheesy Madam is something you'll just have to ask the owner about!"

"this is a quirky old building with friendly helpful staff from the arrival to the departure with the usual 'spoons menu and great prices in between. our room was spacious, the bed was solid, but comfortable and very large. all linen were immaculate white. we were two floors up and no noise from down or other guests. the room looked a little tired and needed a touch-up, (note to pure look behind the bathroom door. but at the price was still excellent. pay attention to the parking space on the back of the building, there are now only two disabled rooms and that 's it, the other rooms are a little further on being the property of an adjacent business, so for all other parkings its just a little further down the road either on the short or long stay 'pay and display', both favorable. the location could not be more central and convenient in this historic and interesting Welsh city."

"Went for afternoon tea with my wife, using an 'experience ' voucher from a well known site, costing £35.99 absolute disaster! The description said 'sit down in the sophisticated dining room and tuck into a section of finger sandwiches, tantalising cakes, pastries, macarons and scones with clotted cream and jam. You won 't want this afternoon to end! ' Trust me, we could not get out of their quick enough and go and find somewhere to get something to eat. The sophisticated dining room was a large, cold room with only a couple of other diners, sticky wooden tables, with no table cloths, just a flimsy paper napkin and a knife and fork. We ordered a coffee and a tea, which came in the smallest teapot, I have ever seen. Later in the meal, when we asked for another drink, we were told that was extra and were charged another £5.70. The food was nothing like as described or pictured on the website. A sad looking selection of sandwiches four quarters each of thin sliced bread one containing a very small piece of processed ham, a second mashed up egg, third was some sort of fish, not sure if it was salmon or tuna; and finally some sort of green leaf with something wet on top it looked like the sandwich had been made days earlier and then sat upon! No pastries or macarons but the two scones with clotted cream and two little pots of jam were OK, however the remaining small cakes were dreadful, none of them were fresh there were two eclairs that were inedible, either the cream or chocolate was off and they were very dry; two little red velvet cakes, which again were dry and horrible; and finally two small pieces of carrot cake that were the least objectionable but again very dry. When we told the waitress the eclairs, she said she would tell the chef but no offer of an alternative. True, it was an unforgettable experience, but not in the way we had expected! We have had afternoon teas in top hotels, pubs, cafes and well known garden centres and nothing came close to being as bad as this meal. Needless to say we will never return and would strongly advise caution if anyone is thinking of going here."
