"Now known simply as the Grill and Bar after the Ivanhoe's 2015 refurbishment, we recently called in on our first visit to the Ivanhoe in a couple of years. The bright restaurant was virtually empty when we arrived for a late breakfast, with only two or three other tables still being occupied, and we were shown to a table immediately on arriving. The breakfast menu offers a good range of options from cereals up to the full Irish breakfast (Ulster fry) and both the full Irish breakfast and French toast with bacon that we chose were well prepared and very filling and washed down by a couple of cups of excellent coffee. The service was also very good and the prices very reasonable for the area definitely somewhere to go back to!"

Both Chicken Burger Meal and Beef Burger Meal were budget quality left disappointed and would not return if such a simple meal was hard to do. Good atmosphere in bar however.

Having decided to go out for a last minute tea we rang the Ivanhoe who were able to accommodate us. Although the bistro was very busy we were welcomed by a very nice waitress and shown to our table and we ordered our meal which arrived beautifully presented and served by excellent staff, it was delicious and would have no hesitation in recommending this place for food and service. Been regular diners here for a long time and it was always a good experience until last Friday 04/11/ 22 ordered the roast beef which was usually 2 to 3 slices and very nice but this time it was only about one slice that arrived shredded very very dissatisfied and when your spending between £70 to £100 per visit it just isn’t value for money so we will not be returning anytime soon Regards Audrey and Ray Turner

Just had lunch in the Ivanhoe had an open prawn sandwich with avocado for £11.95. This was a complete rip off for the price. Small half avocado which was over ripe and an average open prawn sandwich. The plate was dominated with a tasteless salad. For the price I expected something that was fresh, flavoursome and more sophisticated. When my friend suggested the Ivanhoe I was underwhelmed. The next time I will say no way.

Today Sunday 20th feb my wife and daughter with her two children and a friend decided to have dinner at this bistro, after asking for a table for three adults, and two children, wife early 60’s, daughter early 30’s and two boys 4 and 7 , the greeter? This man looked my wife and daughter and children up and down and said we are fully booked, there were empty tables! It seems only certain people are allowed to eat in this bistro! Remember people asking locals to support local eateries…..avoid like Covid! Ver carta

Booked a table for seven when we got seated only half of the group were giving menus. After managing to stop a member of staff to order we had to wait 35mins on our food, after 25mins waiting I asked a male member of staff when will the food be served, he walked up to the chefs and said table etc want to know what's keeping there food, then I got told it would be next, when desert's got served we all sat with no spoons and had to walk up to the kitchen counter and lift them ourselves, the looks we got from staff were disgraceful not even a thankyou when walking out.

I live local to the Ivanhoe but hadn’t visited for a long time as previously had a disappointing meal a number of years back. Had heard good reports so decided to book a family lunch. Was welcomed by very friendly staff and the restaurant had a lovely open atmosphere. Nice traditional menu with a good selection of dishes. Also a good selection of Vegan options. The portion sizes are rather large. Not a major issue to be honest but most of our party struggled to finish their plates!! Deserts were really good too! All in all a lovely family meal and reasonably priced compared to some of the other restaurants in the locality at £105 for a party of 5. Will definitely be back!

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."
