"Brasserie Georges enjoys a prime location on the edge of the beach and close to the terminus of the fancy new trams that transport you to the seaside from many parts of town in a matter of minutes. It is a large restaurant with tables under awnings and inside. On the terrace not all tables are shaded and that part of the seating area can get uncomfortably hot - I am not sure why they can’t seem to extend the canvas over the entire area. The food here is at best average, and the toilets / washrooms are a bit below par. There is no hot water for washing hands. The food is reasonably priced: you can get a 2-course meal for around 12-15 euros, but it will be fairly basic. I went for the more up-market Georges Special at 21.50, also not exactly extravagant, but comprising 3 courses (without drink, coffee or garnishes). The first course was a seafood mélange, consisting of four prawns and a fair number of rather tough whelks, served on a bed of ice and accompanied by fresh bread rolls and buttery mayonnaise. So far so good. The main course was Parmentier de Canard. It came with a salad, anything else such as rice or potatoes would have cost and extra 3 euros (!). This was very disappointing. It consisted of a few traces of stringy meat (pulled duck, one might say) covered in mashed potatoes and grated cheese. The dessert, grandly named ‘Two Eggs in Snow’ turned out to be the familiar ‘Floating Island’ sprinkled with chopped almonds. Service was reasonably prompt and efficient, and the meal was satisfactory, if not a great gastronomic treat."
