I highly recommend the youth hostel, the castle, and of course the castle restaurant. The town of Altena is also very pretty and definitely worth a visit when the weather is nice. Ver carta

Good home cooking, at normal prices. The service is very good and really nice. Great ambience and the view from the balcony is unique. There is also an English menu for international guests.

Absolut empfehlenswert. Tolle Ambiente durch die Burg, ohne aufgesetzt zu wirken. Als Bewohner von Altena ist es zweifelsohne die erste Adresse für gutes und leckeres Essen. Die Küche ist sehr gut und die Karte weißt immer wieder Überraschungen auf. Service tipp topp, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Freue mich schon auf die nächste Gelegenheit. Ver carta

We celebrated our wedding in the castle restaurant. We had a very nice room just for us (the veranda room) The dinner was very good and our special request for allergy sufferers was also implemented excellently . The employees have a very personal, familiar manner that creates a relaxed atmosphere. The baked ice cream is great and you should definitely treat yourself to a cocktail or two

Truly fabulous service. The waiter was very personable and humorous in a pleasantly relaxed manner. The chef came by after the food had been on the table for a few minutes and asked how things were. General service and customer interaction still hold a very high priority here. The food was also perfect. I had the freshest pounded Wiener schnitzel I can remember. They also offer more rustic fare, including game. Vegetarians/vegans needn't be afraid either; the menu has a dedicated page full of dishes from this category. All in all, I recommend this to anyone who is willing to pay the necessary amount of money for excellent food, drink, and hospitality.

Das Burgrestaurant Altena ist mehr als nur ein Ort zum Essen, es ist ein Erlebnis für alle Sinne. Inmitten historischer Mauern vereint es auf köstliche Weise Tradition und Moderne. Die Speisekarte ist eine wahre Einladung zur kulinarischen Entdeckungsreise: Deftige Klassiker treffen auf raffinierte Kreationen, immer zubereitet mit frischen, regionalen Zutaten. Besonders empfehlenswert ist es, die Mahlzeit auf dem Balkon zu genießen. Der atemberaubende Panoramablick über die umliegende Landschaft verleiht jedem Gericht eine ganz besondere Note.
