"I used to frequent this cafe most mornings with my partner. We were regulars at one of the surrounding gyms. We 'd come in for coffee and the occasional breakfast on weekdays after training out of convenience. Each morning we 'd come in and see the same waitress who would often ignore us for as long as possible. One morning, as my partner pulled out his drink bottle, she said to us and him; Oh I thought you looked dodgy and laughed trying to make light of the situation. Maybe she was embarassed that she actually made this unsubstantiated observation out loud. Sorry, we didn 't realise that the act of sipping from your drink bottle was considered 'suspicious '? My partner would often wear hoodies, as any Wellingtonian would know, that the mornings here are crisp. He and me are people of colour. This waitress was not. I expect a lot more from Wellington. This behaviour and these comments are disgusting. Obviously, we have never been back."

I stopped by for lunch based on a recommendation and had a mixed experience. The Risotto was mediocre, with not enough alcohol burnt off, but the Seafood Chowder was excellent. The prices were very reasonable and the staff provided really good service.

I was really disappointed with my recent brunch experience at Cafe Laffare. For $26, I received only one piece of toast and eggs, which I found to be extremely overpriced for the portion size. I understand that food prices are high, but this was just unacceptable.

Very poor gluten free options. Would not recommend for coeliacs Well done to the waitress who checked everything but I’m disappointed with the attitude of the kitchen staff. If you’re going to advertise gluten free options then make it coeliac friendly or don’t advertise it as gluten free because it really isn’t.

The restaurant was very busy on a typical Saturday morning for breakfast, but we were able to find a table within 15 minutes. The service was great, and we enjoyed the scrambled eggs and coffee. However, we were rather disappointed with the potato rosti as it was overcooked, hard, and difficult to cut. It was not the type of rosti we were accustomed to.

Visited for a quick coffee. Was ignored by no less than FOUR staff… another customer asked if they could serve me. The water arrived and was plonked down. Eventually the coffee arrived, after the person next to me had ordered his and a full breakfast and eaten it… The spoon had a dirty piece of paper stuck to it.. Sent it back Just my experience… but I won’t be back

Had some friends come into Wellington on a cruise ship and L'affare was recommended to get good coffee. The service and coffee was good but the food was not. I had bacon and egg pie...hard to find the bacon.. The crosti was over cooked. the other meals were very average. Maybe L'affare should stick to coffee and forget the food. Very disappointed. Will not be reccomending.

We had bacon egg butties here after the weekly Mor Wils shop and it was our first time here after a very long time and the new fitout looks great, not to mention the flash new loos out the back, no more having to queue for the one toilet in the parking alley anymore. The young service person was fine and offered us the jug of water foor the table. Out bacon egg butties were fine but I did not appreciate the black carbonised bits that were attached to the egg, this is due to the grill not being scraped down regularly and remaining bits get burnt to be served up to the next customer. So the cheffy here is the same chap as of the old L'affe so needs to tidy up his game, not nice!

We were down in Wgton on business and decided to have lunch at our old favourite, L'Affare. It has been ages since we last went there, and both of us were so looking forward to our lunch. Neither of us are big eaters, so we ordered scrambled eggs with sourdough and decided we would have the rosti with both meals as this potato dish is a traditional dish in Switzerland where we have both had 2 weeks on business. Rosti it was NOT, it was rock hard, in a block and was obviously deep fried ? and tasteless. My goodness the Swiss would be appalled to learn this monstrosity was called Rosti. Why this cafe calls it rosti is a mystery. Always loved going to this cafe, and it was a Saturday haunt for...

On a cold Wellington day, you want a hot drink and a hot meal in a nice cosy cafe. L’affare’s industrial chic is all very well but when there’s no heat, it feels like a gulag. Today when we visited, everyone left their jackets on. Breakfast was pretty ordinary. Nothing wrong with it really, but when I’m paying ten bucks an egg, I expect it to be bang on, and maybe even glammed up a bit. This was bare bones basic. Service was sloppy it was there at least, but our guy seemed clueless almost surprised when we requested cutlery for our meals, which was then dumped in a pile on our table. Now I know it’s a cafe, not a Michelin Star restaurant, but L’affare used to be a Wellington institution. I’v...

"we wanted to visit the midlands and family for the first time since Christmas and in the frame of the visit I decided that we would take my mother for a nice Sunday dinner. she lives in telford and I am not familiar with the contrary so that I am on tripadvisor for ideas. I mean, I was looking for restaurants in Telford and sorted by rating; clays of broseley was the best from the list and that was what I booked. it is about a minute drive from my mother place through a beautiful shropshire landscape. we arrived in broseley a little early and found a parking space right in front of the restaurant. we were invited to take place on the terrace while they opened and had some drinks. I had a fantastic homemade limonade with glittering water, my mother had a Rhabarb juice that was so delicious that we were strolling home with us and my wife had a very nice pot tee. we had booked a table that had been placed in the restaurant for us, but we were offered the table on the terrace for lunch, which we liked to accept as the weather was perfect. we all ordered from the midday card, which for two courses and for three courses was a fantastic bargain. I ordered salmon and hake meatcakes with delicate brokolli, spargas and a white wine sauce and my wife and mother both ordered the beef Sirloin roast dinner. I was so impressed with eating. honestly, this restaurant lives up to all reviews. the ingredients were fresh and tasty and not refined as they get some places. to dessert my mother and I both had the rhubarb and custard' and playful plate that rhubarb compott, gelee, vanilla cream and small mygues combined crazy. the perfect end for every afternoon. during the meal were the employees (I'm sorry to say that I didn't get their names) attentive and friendly. our month old sohn, henry, has a stinking cold and has teethed, so was not on his best behavior, but the staff was fantastic with him. They even went so far that they broke out one of their dogs, a beautiful, huge dog called barney, for henry's entertainment. to cover everything, and this is great for parents of small children, they had a full baby change unit, complete with diapers, wipes and unhappy bags! I can honestly say I've never seen this before. all in all, for three nets, two desserts and drinks, the bill came less than unnecessary to say, I intend to visit again when we are close. I really can't wait."
