Cafe le Jeanne d'Arc

We had numerous meals here and were never disappointed. They were very accommodating for our two children and the food was always fresh and delicious!

This is a great place to sit over a coffee/ drink and watch the world go by in warm weather. A genuine local bar which continues to serve the community in the winter months. Had a great lunch here.

A surprise treat for lunch on our cycle trip from Azay to Chinon. Simple but really tasty lunch, and amazing value at 11 euros a head including ice-cream and drink. The lady who served us could not have been more welcoming - she even insisted on refilling our water bottles before we left. And lovely place in the square to sit in the sun or shade. Ver carta

This is a bar in the village of Huismes, a few miles from Chinon. Living locally, we have visited several times for lunch. The menu is limited (always a good sign), the food is straightforward, but well cooked and very tasty. The 'hosts' are always welcoming and friendly. A great stop-off for lunch or coffee on the cycle route through the Loire Valley.

Hottest June on record, we left Azay-le-Rideau on bikes headed for Chinon and were glad to find this restaurant open on the square on a Monday. They have about five appetizers, five entrees and five desserts, almost all homemade. Delicious and plentiful lasagna with courgettes and ricotta and nice mousse au chocolat. Friendly and chatty service in French, including good advice about bike routes ahead.

we stopped for lunch, which we enjoyed with local and other cyclists. we enjoyed the first two dishes so much that we also tried the dessert. we had a krillette of pork (very good), and crumble for beginners. I had steak with chips for...is delicious and my friend osso buco. the service was helpful and relaxed. we sat outside on the small square with passing traffic. we visit this small village untiltro regularly. there is a terrace for summer dinner, either on the afternoon or in the evening (later in the week). the interior is limited. there is always a good choice on the menu ... lasagne, daube de boeuf, quiche,...etc good desserts. most of the menu consists of dressed that are made by the patrons. it offers real value for money. However, it is important to reserve in advance if they want to be sure that a table. close to there are places of work, of which groups regularly come to midday and it is often full of them, tourist and local.

we rented a gite in huismes for several weeks, so had the opportunity to dine several times in the caffe. Although there are two restaurants in the city, this is the only one that has returned. our first eating was out of comfort, it was close. we didn't want to cook. we found a simple but clean, pleasant atmosphere and our joy, an extremely hospitable and welcoming owner, delicious fresh food and several residents enjoy their lunch. we assume that the others were diners, because we often saw the same faces we had often returned. with delicious fresh food, beautifully prepared, an ever-changing menu, good service, simple parking, large windows to leave in the light and an excellent value, it...

We arrived at our gite, late on a Tuesday. After getting organised it was after 8:00 pm. The owner of the house we had rented suggested we dine at the Petite Auberge in the village. Good idea -- unfortunately closed that day! No groceries at home and we didn't want to drive any further that day so...we wondered into the town square to the local cafe/pub Jeanne d'Arc. Asked if supper was still available. The owner obliged and we had a lovely comforting meal. I had potée parmentiere (sp?) which turned out to be a tasty shepherd's pie with lamb I think.
