"it was a hot, late spring day in Bergerac, and I tring to avoid the trendoid restos in the shopping area, we hsppened on this modest, old-fashioned, dark, cool bar/brasserie near a major downtown parking area. I was a bit shocked to see that (a) there were only 4 reviews of this place, (b) they were all in French, and (c) they were all negative. Come again? The service was a little eccentric in that it was a little late for lunch and we had to flag down a waiter (we speak French pretty well), but once that was done, all was well. The waiter brought a 50cl flask of the excellent dry white wine of Bergerac, and I ordered one of the specials on the chalkboard, 'Oeuf a plat', and my husband ordered a Salade Niçoise. It took a little while for them to appear, while we occupied ourselves with the excellent white wine and basket of bread, but when they arrived, my, what a treat! My husband's salade was of the deconstructed type: all the ingredients were arrayed separately on the plate, to be arranged, dressed and eaten as the customer chose. Everything was fresh, crunchy, tasty, and bright. Each bit wasclearly intended to be appreciated individually. Just seeing the way the fresh cherry tomato slices alternated prettily with hard boiled egg slices around the rim of the platter made us both smile. My 'Oeuf a plat' dish was a revelation! It was a thin slice of ham over which two sunny-side-up eggs were placed. Next to this was a perfect, absolutely perfect little salad composed of fresh, delicate, baby lettuces with a mild, fruity, golden olive oil dressing with walnut halves. My sunny side up eggs, the yolks red-gold in color, obviously came from hens who had been fed something like marigolds, in contrast to the yellow but standard hard-boiled eggs used for garnish. This apparently modest lunch was designed to appeal to both the eye and the palette of the customer! This was a lunch clearly prepared by a chef who loved composing a meal appealing to all the senses. It is hard to imagine that this marvelous restauants could have received so few reviews, and those so negative. After travlng many years in France, I would rank this lunch among the finest I have ever been served."

For NYE 2017 we decided to stay close to home and were super excited to attend Grouse Mountain's New Year's Eve Gala.

Almost like a pub in England, except the owner brings your drinks to the table. loads of tv to watch sports, did not eat here but drinks good value for money and both the owner and locals really friendly. If I lived in Bergerac this would be my local.

Incredibly friendly owner/manager who could do no more to make us feel welcome. Good range of drinks and a number of large screens to watch the sport, very handy when the rugby world cup is on. The restaurant was closed on Sunday when we visited so I can't comment on the food but would highly recommend this bar.

Well worth a visit as the man who runs this a dream and a real pleasure to talk too. Runs avery smart and nice place with beautiful interior and always happy to see you, Used it twice a night for our 7 night stay, first visit as a sharpner for the evening and then last thing going back to hotel as a coffee and cognac stop. Well worth a visit Ver carta

Quirky bar/bistro with outside tables and chairs. Does a fabulous sharing platter of meats and cheeses (other food is served too). Drinks as expected when in France, very kindly sold us loads of bottles of water to take away too. But the service from Godfrey and Christian is amazing. Nothing is too much trouble. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. If you want to relax and watch the world go by, this is the best place to do it.

The Cafe Le Riche was one of the first places we found to eat lunch right after our arrival by train, and even though it was the middle of the afternoon, they found someone to make us some really good sandwiches: a pâté sandwich, a ham sandwich, and a ham and tuna fish sandwich. Since the principal coffee shop in Bergerac was closed the entire week we were there, we went back to Cafe Le Riche for coffee the next morning as soon as they opened (at 9 am). Great coffee. After that, we went there every morning and also had lunch there a couple more times. The proprietor was really friendly, didn't object in the least to my French (which was rusty), and made us feel like we had been customers for...

"We went to L'Omelettaria for dinner with family and we were agreeably surprised by our experience there. Despite the fact that the restaurant was empty when we arrived which isn't that reassuring for a restaurant located in the very heart of the city, the owner was very friendly and welcomed us warmly. When it comes to the menu, options are varied; from omelets to salads and burgers, you can take your pick! There was also a correct amount of dessert options to choose from. As a pescatarian, I really appreciated the owner's thought of adding both vegetarian and pescatarian options to the menu which I believe and according to the menu we'd seen online weren't there before. Overall, the food was great: my mom and I both had the Atlantide omelet which consisted in an omelet filled with white asparagus and crème fraiche and topped with a slice of smoked salmon and lemon. My dad had the Paysanne omelet which was pretty filling; it was stuffed with mushrooms, cheese, potatoes and lardons. As for my sister, she had the Cheddar burger and it looked bomb. She loved it but couldn't finish it and honestly, I wouldn't have been able to finish it either because it was HUGE. Everything was served with a side of fries and salad which is nice and I NEED to mention that the fries are homemade and they are amazing. We thought we would still be hungry after dinner but it wasn't the case; considering the quality of the food and the fact that it is very filling, the prices are quite correct. Now, attention needs to be drawn towards the fact that the place in itself is not very noisy, but it is extremely close to a very busy street so it can get rapidly annoying. I do recommend this place, and I will absolutely do this again with friends in the summer after a few drinks at the bar which is a few steps away!"
