"The atmosphere is wonderful, and the food is of good quality. However, some items on the menu are quite pricey, and the portion sizes are excessively large. On the plus side, the friendly servers graciously offer takeaway for any leftovers. That said, the service can be inconsistent; our table was approached by four different servers asking if we wanted to order drinks and later if we enjoyed our meal. I did enjoy mine, but I noticed a nearby table was left waiting for ten minutes with only half of their order fulfilled. Overall, it was a positive experience despite these issues."

"I visited this pub for the first time today. My friend and I met with our sons for a catch up. Initially the staff were very accommodating and waited for my friend's son to bottle feed before bringing our food. My son is 19 months...old and can be a very messy eater, which has never been a problem at any other establishment. Today he was a bit under the weather and wasn't eating,so made a big mess on the floor. The owner made a comment about bringing out a dust pan, when she cleared plates, to which I said yes okay. We had only just finished our meal and were contemplating a pudding when the bill was put on our table and we were told we had to go. The owner had to shut up due to unforseen circumstances, which is fair and can't be helped. We were disappointed as we were having a nice time and wanted to stay longer. We rushed to pay our bill as we were the last people there and I apologised for the mess my son had left, I had no opportunity to clean up as we had to leave suddenly. The owner started to say she was disgusted in the mess and became very rude. She said that I was basically a bad mother for allowing such a mess to occur. I stated that I would have cleaned up if we had had more time. She continued to be rude and said she was taking a photo incase I leave bad feedback. I told her ,admittedly very cross now, to bring out the hoover then and I would sort it. This was ignored and she just continued to say I should have cleaned up. I was shocked and appalled. We all know toddlers are messy and yes my son is the worst, but surely it is not acceptable to talk to a paying customer in such a manner. If I had known we were going to have to leave early I would have made a start on cleaning up, again something I have never had to do anywhere else, despite offering."

"I called on a whim, hoping for a table. I was greeted by a friendly young lady at the bar and seated by a window. We ordered drinks and food, which arrived promptly and piping hot. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the decor was lovely. We were able to relax and enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. The food was delicious, and the service was fantastic. Thank you to everyone at The Keys for making my visit so enjoyable."

"Bought a takeaway from here through Just Eat, but I couldn’t rate it on there for some reason. Never had any food from here before, and I was really pleased with the food. The Wagu burger was really nice, and there were plenty of sweet potato fries. Delivery was super speedy too! I would order again, and I would recommend. Service: Delivery Meal type: Dinner"

"During Jim Heaton's time, The Last Inn in Hengoed was a traditional village pub known for its excellent beer, delicious food, and inviting atmosphere. While the new owners have made some changes over the years, they have managed to maintain the pub's original charm, with the unfortunate exception of removing the real fire. Recently, the pub underwent renovations, swapping out the cozy wood panels for a brighter sage green and white color scheme. However, this change has altered the atmosphere drastically, making it feel empty and lacking warmth. Service was subpar, with a new and inexperienced waiter who made mistakes with our orders. The food was hit or miss, with some dishes being acceptable while others, like the Sunday roast, were bland and disappointing. The atmosphere has also taken a hit, with the pub now frequented by unsavory characters in tracksuits glued to the Sky Sports TV. Overall, I hope the new management can work on improving the atmosphere, service, and food quality to restore The Last Inn to its former glory. However, until then, I will not be returning."
