"My sister booked this for a group of us(12)to get together for a Xmas lunch, she even went in day before to make sure everything was okay and to let them have our menu choices so the chef knew exactly what we were having. We arrived at 12.20,meal booked for 12.30,it was over an hour before the ladies who booked a starter got them,an hour later(2.30)we eventually got our main meals(after a lot of talking from my sister). Main meals came in fits and starts, even though we kept being told that everything was ready ,most of them were only Luke warm, probably the worst cooked meal I've had in a long time. Eventually my sister went to speak to the manager and told him to forget the puddings as we'd already been there 3 hours, and weren't prepared to pay for the meals after the way we'd been treated and as the meals weren't that great. I felt sorry for my sister as she had worked hard to get everyone together and had been in touch with the cat and fiddle to make sure all was right. The only one thing that made the mood a little lighter was The barman Alex who kept apologising and doing his best under the circumstances. Would we go again, most definitely not ."

Been here before for food so we decided to come back again. Had the Sunday lunch. Lovely big dinners and very good value for meals. Staff so welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend this pub.

I went to this restaurant with a group of friends for Christmas dinner and we all had a wonderful experience. The portions were generous, the service was excellent, and it was good value for money. I would definitely dine here again.

The service at this restaurant was extremely slow. When they were busy, they neglected to fulfill app orders. There was only one bartender working, and she was moving at a slow pace. She focused only on the customers in front of her, causing delays in service.

We decided to go for our tea instead of cooking. And we had the build your own burger seeing as it was a Wednesday. I had the chicken burger with bacon Mottsorella sticks curry sauce. It was amazing I've tried plenty of burgers in my time. But that chicken burger was the altamate burger ever the curry sauce I could of asked for a mug full and drank the lot. Brilliant all round and a fantastic thumbs up to the chief. Ver carta

I ordered a medium rare steak but it arrived very well done. Unfortunately, it was the last steak available so I had to order a different meal. The scampi was covered in dark black oil, indicating that the oil hadn't been changed in a while. There was no check back on our food, so I had to wait at the bar to complain. The meal also didn't come with a steak knife, and there was no draft coke available, only bottled. The Moretti beer also tasted off. We had to get our own cutlery, which was dirty, and there were no napkins provided.

It was burnt there was already anything in the dish so I sent it back. I had fish and chips, hoping that it was beer battered, and it wasn’t. it was frozen and wasn’t very nice and cold and the chips and peas was won’t be going again. Xx

We went with friends of ours so a party of four, we ordered our starters all good at that point then we ordered the main meals and sorry it went downhill from there. The first to arrive was the curry this was only luke warm so had to be sent back to be reheated, then a prawn skewer arrived but without the accompanying salad and chips these arrived ten minutes later! by this point the skewer had been finished. The other two meals arrived 10 15 minutes after the first two I expect all meals to arrive at roughly the same time? it is such a shame we found the food to be excellent but the service let it down. Visited the Cat and Fiddle before their make over and had a mildly disappointing meal which I have to say was dealt with quickly. I went back after the make over and was hugely impressed with what they have done. It is now a lovely bright space where food diners and drinkers can somewhat be separated if they wish. The food I have to say has taken a massive improvement. My husband who is particular with his food really enjoyed the sirloin steak and chips. It was by far the best steak he has had on a less expensive budget. I had hunters chicken which was really lovely. Top marks for food, staff an surroundings and will be coming for a Sunday dinner very soon!

My friend invited me for Sunday lunch and we enjoyed our meal. We had the 2 for £12.99 Turkey Sunday lunch and I was surprised at the size of the meal. It was very tasty and good value for money. I would have liked a hot plate as some of the food was only warm. We both had one item missing from our plates... I had no roast potatoes my friend had no Yorkshire pudding so I went to the bar to tell them and within 5 minutes our missing items arrived at the table with apologies. We both had the coconut cake with raspberry jam custard which was also very nice. For my first visit here I was impressed with the quality of food, value for money the customer service. I will definately return here in th...

"This was our first visit. I have to remind myself that this is a training environment for students but there should be someone in charge, who is identifiable to direct the students on how to present a menu and how to place a dish in front of customers. However, four courses for £35, amuse bouche counted for one course. Amouse bouche lacked any seasoning, orzo starter, well cooked but again lacked seasoning. My wife had fish, Coley, which was nice. I had chicken breast on a bed of curry sauce with hassleback potatoes. My whole dish was luke warm at best, the curry sauce was overpowering, and the hassleback potatoes were not crispy. The chicken was lovely and moist and I ordered a side of triple cooked chips which were super hot, expensive at £4, I only wish the rest of my dish was that hot. I had cheese and biscuits which consisted of Brie, blue cheese and cheddar together with chutney. My wife had Pain Perdue which was well presented and tasty. The restaurant is more like a cafe, not cosy, so don't choose it if you want a romantic evening. Overall would I go again? probably not. If you are ever near the Lake district try to book a table in the restaurant at Kendal College. On a final note; there is parking on an evening next to the college. Drive up to the barrier and press the call button, security will let you in. The barrier opens automatically on exit."

"6 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 children went here for my mom's birthday meal. Mom chose the place as she's been here before. I wasn't sure what to expect from her description so I checked on here before leaving work. I have never seen so many 5 star reviews and hoped it lived up to the hype. We arrived at 7:30pm after driving through a pleasant housing estate. The premises are located on the ground floor of a community centre, next to the gym. The illuminated GIOS sign was the only clue. Upon entering, we saw 4 other tables were occupied, with 12-14 other patrons. The interior decor was unusual, with countless pieces of artwork, movie posters, and unusual items with an Italian theme. The tables and chairs are all different shapes and sizes, but this just adds to the charm of the place. Within a minute, Gio emerged from the kitchen with a warm welcome. We sat down and opened the drinks we had bought with us, the place is not licenced. Soon, we had ordered the taster menu for the adults and the youngsters had pizza. First we had a lovely, fresh vegetable soup, with cold meats, a crustless quiche and lovely warm bread. Not long after, Gio, who was the only waiter, came out with the kids pizzas. Freshly made and delicious, and about 12 of thin crust. Then he bought out 2 large lasagne, 2 large plates of a pasta dish with courgette, 2 plates of plain chicken thighs and breast on a salad with crispy chicken skin, 2 plates of another spicier chicken with skin, on a bed of delicious herby potatoes, and an Italian casserole with sausage and meatballs in a tomato sauce. Food was plentiful and delicious. Gio packed the leftovers up as there was a lot of food, all made fresh in the premises. We then had a chat as Gio served everyone else, without looking stressed and being so friendly and polite with everyone. He also gives a carafe of water and a carafe of juice to each table. Italian music playing, he then produced a dessert with was like a warm brownie, with thick, clotted cream, a fruity drizzle and an amaratto biscotti on top. The ladies and gents are located next door where you walk through a healing centre, with chairs creating a walkway to keep you from the various equipment. As I said, the kitchen and restaurant is in a shared community centre. I was told profits go to local homeless, and it's clear from the decoration that Gio does a lot for local charities. Mom picked up the bill of £13.50 a head (massive value) and Gio said the kids were only a fiver, but mom asked him to keep the rest which he eventually did after some persuasion. When the main rustic Italian tasters were served, Gio also served two more fresh pizzas at no cost, which he says they always do for larger groups. I have plenty of leftovers to take to work today, and we all left full after the kids plated the piano and Gio and an older customer danced in the restaurant. Three pots of fresh coffee to finish. A lovely place, beautiful fresh food, amazing value and it serves the local community. Great job, Gio!"
