"I recently ordered a takeaway for a change from hone cooking during the Coronavirus pandemic. I telephoned the order ahead and it was ready upon my arrival. There was a small hitch with the order which they corrected. However, despite being full of anticipation for good old fashioned fish and chips, the experience was dreadful. The chips smelt awful as if the cooking oil used was past its sell by date. The chips were undercooked and soggy. They tasted awful. The cod was better and the batter was acceptable but tainted by the cooking oil. The steak and kidney pie had been reheated in a microwave oven and was soggy and chewy. Awful. The saveloy was barely warm and tasted like no other I have ever tasted. The curry sauce in fairness was good and tasty. Most of the meal was thrown away. I won’t be back here. Sorry. This is not the Christy’s I remember of old. What happened??"

Good chips but really soggy fish. Cod was quite slimey too. Charge £3 for tartare sauce which is a joke. Won’t be trying again.

One in three times it can be ok, can be very greasy, and a lot of the time they should not release poor quality chips, all very bitty.

Cold old chips. Cod portion smaller than ordered. Nothing was freshly cooked. And cost over £30 for 2 large chips, 1 large cod and a few bits of scampi. Total rip off.

Ordered through Uber eats and waited over an hour still not arrived, stated it had been delivered the second it had left the shop, reported via Uber eats, called shop and extremely unhelpful man said it was nothing to do with him??? He could see I had ordered but said there was nothing he can do, very unhelpful, will not be using again either Uber eats or Christys

What can I say?Called by a colleague who was passing locally and wanted a chat and sit on Gigg’s Hill Green, nearby.I had forewarned him that a Hinchley Wood old villager friend, had had a ‘poor experience’ several months back from the same establishment. I had perused the food then, but not tasted it.This time I did. I had one ‘piece’ of the Scampi which colleague had ordered. Really bad indeed.The meat pie looked dire.....the chips were woeful. We have been eating the excellent fish and chips here since Christie opened his eponymous restaurant. Christie has moved on, but the standard has remained very good. My excellent cod or haddock is always cooked to order, never pre-cooked.To those who complain about small portion sizes, my experience differs. The portions are big.If you want it crispy, tell them and they will cook it longer. It isn’t cheap, but fish isn’t nowadays and nor are rents in Elmbridge. It is still cheaper than pizza express down the road .I like their food a lot and will continue to be a regular.

We visited here for the first time in some years, this time Friday evening in the restaurant, which is a clean bijou area at the side of the chippy . Very bright, great original Beryl Cook type pictures by a local artiste, bought by Christy when he owned it. several years ago Now owned by Turkish brothers, with their wives helping, so a family business. Service very friendly. There is a good selection of fish, but for a change we both had Huss, which was delicious, plenty of chips, and the mushy peas portion was huge! Home made tartatre sauce, and other sauces all provided. Free teas after! £18.80 plus tip is fantastic value.
