"We must have walked past this restaurant hundreds of times. The reason why we haven’t eaten here is simple – we tend to visit places listed in our Italian food guide. Why that changed is also simple. We are not (ahem) “in the full flush of youth” and as such, don’t like eating late. Da Fortuno is one establishment that advertises all day opening and actually is. Unlike some establishments we visited, whose website opening times were pure fiction. Walking past, the food at least looked pretty good. The tables had classic white tablecloths, (always a good sign) and the staff in the smart white coats so popular in old style Italian restaurants. It was very hot outside, so we had a table indoors which was both cool and extremely comfortable. The food on our first visit was wonderful. The three starters of Mozzarella, (shared), a superb Vitello Tonnato and one of the best fried Calamari, (with anchovies) I have tasted. It was so good that my wife and I had it on the next visit. For the mains, we had a fairly standard Fettucine with Ragu and an excellent Spaghetti Vongole. The star was the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe. This is the trickiest of the three Roman classics to get right. Look at any recipe and you think, “How hard is that”? It’s very, very hard to get that cheesy creaminess and this was simply perfect. Possibly the best I’ve ever had and no touristy “fireworks” by having it served from a cheese wheel. Just, simple, excellent, pasta perfection. A Saltimbocca was also given the “thumbs up”. Desserts of a Ricotta Cake and a stunning Tiramisu deserve full marks. Our second visit was just me and my wife and, as I said, we started by sharing the large plate of Calamari and Anchovies – excellent. We were both craving a bit of red meat, so I chose the Beef Fillet with Green Pepper Sauce and my wife had the Entrecote Steak with roast potato. We also ordered a side of fried Porcini (which we spotted in a display on the way in). My steak was not cooked as requested but luckily, I’m not too bothered by my meat being underdone. Quite a lot of the “juices” bled into the pepper sauce (which was excellent by the way). If I were squeamish, that level of “rare” was pure “Send it back” territory. My wife’s Entrecote was a little better and was of a considerable size. Way bigger than the advertised 300gr but a lot of that extra weight was fat. The worst crime was how the porcini was served, being way too oily. All funghi have a propensity for absorbing a lot of the cooking medium and those “meaty” porcini slices had done just that. Not particularly pleasant. As for drinks, the bottle of Primitivo we had on our first visit was excellent and fairly priced. The Cesanese we had on our second visit was even better. Service was polite and impeccable. On the basis of visit number one I’d say it’s a five star place but a point (at least) was deducted for the failings of the second. There are lots of photographs of celebrity diners from previous years if you 're impressed by that kind of thing. I think we will return on our next trip to Rome."

I was at lunch a few days ago.Location with strange furnishings: all dated except for the paintings far too modern, of van gogh illuminated. Good menu and wine card. I take green pepper fillet, really great and quality. Prices a little too high compared to the level of other restaurants in the area and from what it proposes; it can stand on food, but on water and wine glasses a little less.

Consigliato Ver carta

We tried this restaurant because it looked elegant and was literally a few steps from the door of our hotel. It turned out to be a superb experience. The waiters were old school helpful , polite, well informed, unobtrusive yet still friendly. Service was efficient but not rushed. The atmosphere was very pleasant. Visited a few times as we enjoyed it so much! Sampled a number of excellent pasta dishes including linguini with fresh white truffle, and spagatonni with artichoke and baby calamari. The grilled porcini mushrooms were fabulous! Would happily return

Out of all of our dining experiences, unfortunately this was extremely disappointing. I couldn’t eat my starter, eggplant Parmigiana was tasteless and cold, go to Nino, best Parmigiana. We heard so much about the spaghetti carbonara, it was undercooked and far too salty. For my main course, I had the veal chop, one of my favourite dishes, but it had a very strange smell and I thought it was off, although the manager disagreed. We drank our nice bottle of wine and went back to our hotel for desserts and coffee. Probably why the restaurant was empty on a Friday evening.
