"Despite being underneath the Bern-Fribourg motorway, the village of Matran is surprisingly quiet. Thanks to an advice from a colleague I discovered the charming Auberge du Tilleul, directly across the church. It offers fantastic food and great service in a relaxed countryside atmosphere. I had...lunch in the restaurant part a modern, bright and airy dining room. A huge thumbs-up to the staff for providing a friendly and efficient, yet unobstrusive service. It is truly Swiss hospitality at its best. The menu is short with focus on seasonal produce. I began with a delicious starter: asperges rôties grilled asparagus with wild garlic hollandaise sauce (to die for and cured ham. As main course I chose the veal steak served with wild garlic butter, green and white asparagus, and tagliatelle. The portion proved really generous, the meat was tender and perfectly prepared. As dessert I had strawberries with basil sorbet: tasty and very flavorful. Swiss price level is unfortunately very high and Auberge du Tilleul makes no exception. Including wine and coffee the bill amounted to but the food quality and great staff are well worth it. I will definitely come back."

"Je connaissais l'endroit de longue date, mais depuis la reprise par le nouveau patron, j'avoue me sentir bien dans cet endroit qui commence par un parcage facile. Ensuite on y est accueilli chaleureusement par le patron qui est bien présent et veille à ce que tout se passe au mieux. La partie pizza est sans reproche et les pates (perso j'ai un faible pour les fagottini aux truffes) sont très bonnes et bien servies.Tout le staff se donne de la peine pour que l'expérience soit un moment de plaisir.Simple, chaleureux et efficace, je comprends pourquoi l'établissement est bien rempli.Je recommande et je ne suis pas si facile.Histoire de pinailler, certains plats sont un peu chers mais la générosité du patron compense largement ce petit détail."

"Oh little I knew before ordering the 'café glacé ' as a dessert. But first things first. La Cena is an Italian restaurant in Marly, a 14 minute bus ride away from Fribourg train station. The first impression after being seated: casual, welcoming, not crowded nor empty, very relaxed atmosphere. Perfect to spend a nice evening. Since it 's autumn, I opted for 'la chasse ', wild duck to be more precise and fagottini to start. Both dishes were delicious and highly recommended. All of this combined with a bottle of devilish Pinot Noir called Lucifer. But after all the good food there was still this temptation... for that little extra. Tiramisu... or café glacé... hmm tiramisu... maybe.. no, let 's keep that for next time. By the way, thanks to the friendly waitress to be so patient while I was going through my lengthy decision process. But hey, café glacé it was... but the little extra turned out to be a very big extra. Oh, generous they are, and struggling I was... but I succeeded in eating it all...mmm. I even found some space left for a limoncello... or two. Overall, a very pleasant experience. So if you 're in the neighborhood of Fribourg/Marly and want to have some tasty food in a casual setting: La Cena is definitely worth a visit. Update: Ok, I really had to try the tiramisu. So I went back. Obviously, not just to eat a dessert but also to try another dish. This time I opted for a piece of Pumba (a.k.a. 'sanglier ' or a wild well, not so wild anymore once served on a plate p|g) and risotto as a starter. As expected, both dishes were really good. Although I personally preferred the wild duck which I had last time. Regardless, I don 't think you can make any bad choices when it comes to 'la chasse '. But back to that tiramisu... well, for sure it 's less of a challenge compared to the huge café glacé. Even better, I think I need to stop claiming that I don 't like tiramisu 'tout court '. The chef of la Cena has proven that I actually do like it... I just wished it had the same size of the café glacé because... it 's delicious! Update 14.02.2023: The food at La Cena is consistently good, tasty, original Also for special menus like the one on Valentine’s day. Already looking forward to the next visit."

"Très bonne surprise après le changement de tenancier.Nous nous y rendons à l’occasion d’un anniversaire dans la famille. J’avais eu l’occasion d’y aller manger quelques fois avec des amis, avant c’ETAIT un peu « l’usine à chinoise » bas de gamme.Le patron a changé il y a environ une année, maintenant, style diffèrent.Certes, la spécialité maison reste la fondue chinoise, mais la viande est excellente, coupées en morceaux, le bouillon très gouteux avec des vrais légumes, les sauces sont bonnes, particulièrement à l’ail des ours et c’est accompagné de frittes fraiches maison. Salade mêlée servie en entrée après une petit amuse-bouche maison.Le service est attentif, on nous amène de la viande et des frites chaudes jusqu’au bout du repas, avec le sourire, jusqu’à ce que nous rendions les armes. Fondue chinoise à gogo, 28 Frs par personne, 14 Frs pour les enfants jusqu’à 12 and.Un des convives prend les filets de perches (32 Frs) qui sont aussi excellents. Nous y retournerons."

"Ate well. The place has something special, quiet in a small district of Montévraz away from the hustle and bustle of today's society! Very atypical and appreciable. Very nice menu of typical regional dishes and French cuisine, pizzas (to take away too).
