"On January 13th, 2024, my party of four (two couples) visited ICE restaurant at 12:30 pm. We were excited to try out this establishment after finding it online. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The nachos for starters had a poor cheese sauce, soggy chips, and were only saved by the pulled pork. Our main courses - which included sirloin, an open steak sandwich, and two chicken burgers - were also subpar. The steak on the sandwich was undercooked, the sirloin was cold and poorly prepared, and one of the chicken burgers was served cold while the other had raw chicken meat. When we addressed these issues with the waitress, she argued about the color of the chicken meat in the burgers and reluctantly replaced them with similarly cold dishes. To top it off, the Eaton mess sundae was lacking in quality, with just one small meringue and frozen raspberries. We had high hopes for ICE but the food and service fell short, ultimately leaving us disappointed. Despite the nice atmosphere, we will not be returning. "I went to this restaurant on a Saturday evening with friends to see the fantastic Bootsy 10 piece Soul/Funk Band. The stage, lighting, sound system, outdoor toilets, table arrangement, and drink ordering system were all excellent. The management and service should be praised for creating a special summer evening for all guests. The food was delicious, although more options would be appreciated. I highly recommend this venue."

"A party of four adults arrived at the Grange Thurston today, for an afternoon tea and a possible evening meal the following evening. Arriving at the front door, wearing masks, to be met by an officious man, presumably the manager. We were told we would need to wear masks in the bar and restaurant. I stated that it would be difficult to eat and drink while wearing a mask. The response was that it was government regulations. We were then told we need to register using the NHS app. This involved scanning an app into a smart phone. I asked what if a person didn't have a smart phone and the response was it was government regulations. I tried to question the policy but the person continued to talk over me. My understanding is that an alternative, such a pen and paper, should be provided. At this point a woman and child walked past us out of the hotel, without masks. This person had no concept of customer service. In addition the regulations do not come in force today and he has no idea of the regulations. We therefore left and the hotel lost the custom of the price of afternoon tea and the potential of an evening meal of four people. In these difficult times hotels and restaurants need to be aware of regulations and do everything to encourage not discourage customers. I would recommend you avoid this establishment until suitable competent management is in place."

"My father booked for Christmas Day lunch on the basis of liking the new owner's other hotel. Unfortunately, the meal was very small portions and poor quality especially for the top end price charged. The soup had large lumps of fat and rind in rather than lardons, but was otherwise ok. The Gravlax dressing was very tart. The main was terrible. A small plate and it was hardly full. Small bits of turkey, one small bit of stuffing, one small pig in a blanket, no gravy as such, hardly any veg (4 tiny sprouts, 2 small chantenay carrots and 3 half roast potatoes). I know that top end restaurants often serve small portions but they should be well presented and of high quality but the standard of this meal was more comparable to school dinner. The parsnips were missing and when I asked for them I received a plate of half raw parsnips. Talking to other guests they had the same parsnip experience. The pudding was ok but small. It was not clear if coffee was included as it was not listed on the menu. We decided to leave straight away. As we left several other guests were complaining along similar lines to us. I gather from speaking to the manager that there had been some sort of problem in the kitchen. I know that mass catering is not easy but they seem to manage well other times judging by the good reviews. The front of house staff were doing their best and I do not blame them but it was all very poor. A real shame. The meal had been paid for in advance and my father was too polite to make a fuss."

"As a group of nine, we went out for a quick meal. We ordered children's meals, a variety of small plates, and a pizza. Unfortunately, the pizza never arrived! When we spoke to the staff, they responded with, "Well, you probably didn't order it." They eventually realized that we had indeed placed the order and that it had been overlooked. They issued us a refund, but that was the extent of their response—no apology. To make matters worse, the beer garden was covered in dog waste, which left my grandson's trainers in a terrible state, forcing us to throw them away. It’s safe to say we won’t be coming back."
