"This was my first visit to the refurbished Dr Foster and it was immediately clear that much work had gone into its upgrade. However, a definite shortcoming is the unventilated glassing in of the dockside area which meant that even on a normal summer evening it was like an overheated greenhouse and not surprisingly, the 15 or so tables (50 covers! in that area remained empty throughout my visit. A pity, in that a good example of how to do it properly is at the greek restaurant just next door. I also found the choice of beers strangely limited but was told it was policy to only serve locally sourced ales, Guiness?? The well known Henry Westons vintage cider was prominent but, being very strong is not for the faint hearted or casual drinkers on a night out. In summary, an interesting venue but not one to make a bee line to on a visit to the docks."

We took our family for our grandson’s birthday. The staff found us the perfect spot so the children could play with their toys. Staff were fab and friendly. It was really hot outside but inside was beautifully cool. We had a great Sunday lunch. Even the 3 year old loved the beef croquettes -they were lush. And the veg were great. Our daughter is vegetarian and loved the wellington. All in all a lovely afternoon. Thank you to everyone at Dr Fosters for making the day special.

This place has reopened. Whether or not by the same management, I’m not sure but my bank balance sure knows about it. Two beers, some crisps and then some milk for the little’un and it cost me the best part of £20. We only stopped in on the way home as we’d seen it had reopened while walking past it a few days earlier. Nice place (as it always has been) and I’m not sure if they’ve got their food back on but it’s a tad on the pricey side for Gloucester… even the Docks. I’ll be back… when my dads paying.

Was pleased to hear that Dr fosters had reopened.. So on a a day of sunshine popped in for a drink and look around. The bar looked very modern and the staff well dressed in waistcoats. However nothing else appears changed and the place has a rustic grubiness. Although there is a conservatory which looks out over the docks, the tables are not laid out very well (unless you happen to go out in a party of twenty people. there was no actual outdoor seating to enjoy the sunshine. Altogether a rather disappointing visit. Ver carta

Called in for lunch on our first day in Gloucester what a fantastic place. Friendly helpful staff a great selection of drinks and really good tasty food and spotlessly clean. I thought it was going to be expensive but I was very pleasantly surprised extremely good value for money. I’ve been saying for ages we don’t see ploughman’s in pubs anymore, what was on their menu a ploughman’s and it was delicious. We also had aubergine flat bread with beef dripping chips and vegetarian fries. Thank you please keep up the good work

Wow, what a fabulous afternoon, the staff were amazing friendly, polite and professional, the food was outstanding and the best Sunday lunch we have had eating out for years. We were a party of 8 with 2 small boys who loved their roast too. The pudding was excellent as well. We were guided through the food and drinks menus by attentive staff, and we didn’t have to wait very long after we had placed our order, first class service. The decor is fresh and modern too, and there are many areas to sit and relax. Excellent and highly recommend

"The Cavern in Gloucester is one of a kind. To a lot of people just passing by it is a very pleasant social cafe with reasonably priced food and non-alcoholic drink. The reality is that The Cavern is so much more than that. This is a place that is non-judgemental and focuses on inclusion for everyone. It has a lot of regular attendees including myself, many of which have mental health issues and/or some form of disability. The staff here (who are absolutely amazing) have a varied and wide understanding of mental health and what makes this place unique is that anyone can attend in the evening to talk to a member of staff about any issues in an informal and discrete way. Whilst staff are available anytime during the day there is a designated support area in the evenings which anyone can make use of. There are also various activities which The Cavern put on including an informal karaoke on a Sunday evening with mixed abilities of singers taking part. You don 't have to be a good singer as you will not be judged, it 's all about taking part. The Cavern has had a couple of bad reviews where it has been pointed out that there has been drug use and anti-social behaviour. Some of which may be true, however please bear in mind that some people who attend The Cavern may have mental health issues and conditions that may not be physically visible. The Cavern does not judge and is open to everyone. If The Cavern wasn 't so inclusive, then where would these people go? On the streets being Antisocial ? Getting involved in criminal activity? The safe space that The Cavern provides encourages people to attend and seek advice and support from a friendly staff team as well as other regular attendees who feel that The Cavern has a real family feel to it. Drug use is strictly prohibited and is challenged immediately. Whilst I accept that The Cavern may not run smoothly 100% of the time, I also know that the staff do everything that they can to support everyone who needs it. They are all very approachable and have the respect of people who feel able to open up to them about their problems and struggles. The Cavern is a safe space for everyone and if it was to ever close then Gloucester would lose a very valuable asset to the city."
