"We had booked lunch for four of us at 1pm. When we arrived the place was deserted. Just two bar staff and us. The service was good, but I'd rate the choice and quality of food as very average. Halfway through our meal, several locals turned up and started playing pool at the other end of the bar. Other than that, the place was devoid of any ambience and it was all rather disappointing."

"1 st visite to this pub it will not be the last quaint old building just off the center of Saffron Walden gold street is a small road with no visitor parking but only a short walk from the common or swan medow Not a large pub but tables in dining room are well spaced giving a comfortable atmosphere and a realy plesant place to eat The menue has a very good selection of light bites ,Sandwiches or panines served with salad and chips . i had the fish platter well prepared and served. Tasty with a good portion size all the food served for a table of 6 was of the same high quality the whole menue is loaded with classic favourite dishes Good well kept beer to staff are friendly cheerfull and turn up at the right time. All in a very good lunch. A building this age is often very difficult to access in a wheel chair but in this case there is only a very small step at entrance plenty of room in bar and dinning room on the down side there is a step up to the loos but the staff tell us without fuss where an accessable toilet could be found"

"that's all! nothing is too much annoyed by the new owners. eat excellent quality delivery also excellent and punctual, even if they are pre-booking order for a certain time. recommend our special request we call it our trawlerman whopper special, a big! double cheese burger with speck extra cheese, wobble even salat, tomaten and gurke. presentation, taste, worth wow! highly recommended! 10/10 standards have been raised since new property. our slightly requested broken fish every week in front to youngs x. not only a fish-N-chip shop. new menu amazing! it is a 10/10 of us youngs. well done to all teams many thanks!"

"I’ve always liked the food here and my wife and I thought we would pop in for lunch. I have to say the food was nice, however I was less than impressed with the service. I felt like we were just a nuisance and everything was rushed. I asked for ketchup and he just brought over a massive bottle and slammed it onto the table. Everything felt money oriented and almost annoyance we didn’t spend more (our bill was over £30 for lunch) I have to say it made us feel a bit uncomfortable, especially with a little baby and with the amount of competition in Saffron Walden I do find the service in some places quite shocking. I would have to think twice about going again- which is a shame as it’s somewhere we have gone fairly often."

"Have always had good experiences with Coucou previously. Visited on a Tuesday lunchtime and the cafe was not busy. The service was slow, we were forgotten for long periods and had to call over to the shop staff for attention. The salads were nice as...usual but they had forgotten the walnuts (the waiter did bring them when we asked) and one slice of goats cheese seemed mean for a dish costing £13. Bread lovely as usual. All in all we were disappointed."
