El Gallo - Carta

Stopped here for lunch during a visit to Freiburg. Picked it mainly because it was one of the first restaurants we saw after parking the car. Friendly staff, food was good, though not exactly Mexican agree on that with previous reviewers. Would come back...nevertheless. Reasonably priced lunch menu.

saw sopa azteca and mol and poblano huhn and my mouth water. but it was a bit. the sopa azteca was anything but traditional it was chipotle tomatensoße with avocado and the truthahn poblano I have no idea what that was, chicken...alfredo? does not get 2 stars because the service was good and cocktails were delicious!

Came here for s quick lunch price/quality -ratio was good, all in all around 22e for two meals drinks. The food itself was ok not spectacular but fine, tex mex instead of true mexican foof if you ask me (lack of fresh...herbs, lime flavors). They had an extensive cocktail/drink menu also (we didn't try any of those though). Ver carta

We go to El Gallo every time we are in Freiburg and always enjoy the great cocktails and the yummy food! They have happy hour all day long, a huge cocktail menu and a tasty choice of typical Mexican specialties that taste very authentic. Price/...value ratio is top! The service is always friendly and helpful, even when the place is crackingly full. We love it!!!

Visited Freiburgh Christmas Markets in December 2017 on a day trip not the best of days weather wise but a lovely place if you get a good days weather. Only Problem we had it was a Sunday and the shops are closed on Sunday but...the Market was worth the visit and some small shops were open especially a Shop that sells Black Forest Hand Made Cuckoo Clocks and they had a very good choice as i have always wanted a clock i Bought one very good price and well made clock. We went to El Gallo for a drink and it was a lovely German Tavern only had 2Pints of Beer but very nice.

The waiting staff is very friendly and helpful but this is were the quality ends. All dishes (nachos, quesadillas and burritos) were drowning into to too much fluid (tomato juice? which is being soaked up by the nachos eliminating the crispness one would want. Same...for the quesadilla, swimming in an undefined tomato waterly substance. One would expect that a basic dish of nachos con queso is perfect in a Mexican restaurant I have had better Mexican food in some corporate cantinas or even a few Irish pubs. Despite the menu being moderately cheap I would recommend to visit another restaurant. Ver carta

We came here because I read bad reviews about the other Mexican place nearby but it turns it that that place is far better. We had two dishes: chicken nachos and chicken fajitas. We could not find a single tortilla chip because it was so...cheesy and saucy. I kept telling my friend the chips were in there but honestly, I can’t say. Both of our dishes were supposed to be very different but they looked the same. My chicken fajitas was this pile of mushy chicken with mystery sauce and some cucumbers and tomatoes for garnish. Our drinks were strong but didn’t taste right at all. The waiter was however very friendly and kind. It was okay, I mean we left full, but it wasn’t Mexican food.

I think I just have to accept that they cannot eat Mexican (or Tex-Mex) in Germany. I'm trying. this place had a considerable menu, not only tacos and burritos, so I thought they knew what they did, but no, I. ordered a chimichanga they are not often on a menu in Germany, but it came with rice and I did not want to reis and I like my refritos, so I asked for refritos instead. the waiter had apparently never heard of refritos, so I said he nodded and my chimichanga came with buzzing. I finally found a waiter who knew something about Mexican eating and got my refritos, but they were quite common as the chimichanga. it wasn't very tasty and looked a little tired. in the did it was served so fas...

Good 1st impression of the ambiance. I liked the wall paintings, however the big tv screen advertising their offerings was distracting and didn't seem to fit in. Service was attentive and friendly. As a solo guest, they treated me the same as other guests. I...actually liked the free chips and tomato dip. I ordered a cheese tapas plate to start. It was actually quiet large for an appetizer. It was 6 slices or more of sliced cheese. They by accident brought grilled peppers for another table, which looked really good and I would try next time.
