"Visited early on a Friday evening, around 6.15 and only one other table was occupied. I ordered the Lansun Piro Hari (venison) and my wife had the Kukhura Lababdar (chicken) We also had the tandoori roti, mushroom rice and onion bhaji. First impression was that the roti was thin and small and covered in oil/ghee/butter? The venison dish was a rather unfortunate shade of brown with a decent amount of venison in a LOT of sauce and the chicken dish had pieces of very pale chicken, not the vibrand red, with charred edges you 'd expect of tandoori chicken. My wife said the chicken dish was only just warm with very little taste. Whereas mine was warm but had no taste! I 'd ordered my alien-to-me dish based on the description; Diced venison steak grilled in the clay oven, cooked in a unique style curry leaves, mustard seeds, Nepalese spices with a touch of coconut cream so felt pretty disappointed. We 've not been here for a few years and thought we 'd give it another go but with such an uninspiring meal and with so many choices of restaurants in Chelmsford we won 't be returning."

Went for dinner as small groups of mates, great food, lots of variety, well priced and exceptional service.

One of the best places to eat, they have such a great variety of food, it tastes fantastic and the service is exceptional. I loved the atmosphere and will definitely be returning. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Went in with a group of friends and we were greeted by very friendly staff. I was recommended the staff curry, and wasn't disappointed. One of the nicest curries I've had in a long time. Everyone else in the group was happy with their meals. Will definitely be visiting again.

Such a great service and delicious food. Very happy to have this gem locally and can see why it’s been going so long. Sweet chilli paneer is a favourite and excellent attentive and cheery service. Have recommended to friends and family who agree this is excellent. Will be back very soon

Very odd atmosphere, cold and loud music. Poppadoms stale and cold, only 2 sauces. Tiny portion of 2 prawns for £6, Chicken tikka masala very rubbery, chicken jalfrezi extremely bland. No depth of flavour in either. Saag bhaji is just puréed spinach out of a tin, with no flavour, texture or seasoning. This restaurant seems stuck in 30 years ago when British Indian food was awful. Only the service was of good standard. Extremely disappointing meal.

If you are looking for a really great place to eat that's clean with fantastic food I can recommend The Gurkha restaurant: the smell of the food is mouth watering I love the spices used and the flavours created by the chefs, all the staff are smart and friendly, I've been to this restaurant a few times now and every time I've found the service to be excellence from start to finish. The restaurant owner managed is a lovely welcoming man. If you have never had Nepalese food before you must give The Gurkha a go and you will see and know why people keep coming back.

"I was appalled at the quality of service from the moment I arrived to the moment I left, which was about When I arrived I was not asked if I would like a drink, and I wasn't asked throughout the whole meal. The waitress should have seen on the table that we only had tap water, and asked whether we'd like another drink. Then, we ordered our first round of hot food. I pressed the help button and after waiting for a good minutes for the waitress finally arrived. I felt it was too long. At this point in the evening there were three full tables in the whole restaurant so I thought the amount of time we had to wait was poor. Then the food started coming over, but the food didn't come altogether. A couple of dishes came and then a few more and a few more after that. This meant we didn't all eat together, we ate all at different times. I had ordered two dishes to eat at the same time and they didn't arrive at the same time. Very disappointing. The third order of hot food was beyond a joke. It was clear that one of the two waitress wasn't feeling very well (I overheard one of the chef's telling her to go home). She was our waitress. So, we ordered the third round of hot food. minutes later we still didn't have our food. In this time the chef was talking to the ill waitress. I then pressed the help button and I explained that we'd ordered some food and had been waiting a rather long time. I then look round at the waitress and chef and it was absolutely clear that the order didn't go through so it was only then that the food was starting to be cooked. The waitress who took the order explained that there's been lots of issues and she was sorry. As a customer paying for a meal, I don't care about the issues, I still expected good service and my food to turn up. Overall I thought the service was absolutely terrible. I will not be visiting this restaurant again and I will not be recommending the restaurant to anyone."
