Called in last minute on a busy busy Saturday lunch. Managed to get the last table upstairs in the dining room. Understably service was a little slow but can understand given how busy it was. We were at a breakfast meeting and there was another group in also for their breakfast. We had a full English and it was spot on. The quality of the ingredients and the cooking were excellent. The character of the pub is traditional and even though we were only in for breakfast there was a good atmosphere. Hopefully I can come back another day and enjoy an evening there. A gem of a pub. Situated in the quaint Yorkshire village of Wentworth. Lovely atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. Beer selection good and stock well kept. Ordered Porcetta. Served with a smile, hot and very tasty. Highly recommended. Parking: Car park at front and back of pub. Service was unfriendly and unwelcoming as soon as we walked in. Food basis but expensive Hair in dessert, changed but no apology Tables were mucky, asked a rude waitress to clean it, she rolled her eyes at me and then walked away, never came back to clean table Asked for salt and pepper and condiments, tooled 10 minutes to come after meals almost finished. Waiting staff rude!!! We will never return and would advise others not to go.

We made a reservation for a table for six, along with one dog. The pub was quite busy on a Saturday afternoon, so I recommend parking in the village car park and walking up. The crowd was no surprise, as the food was absolutely fantastic. The service was not rushed at all, and our drinks were brought to our table upstairs. Wentworth is a lovely village with many places to visit including the wonderful Wentworth Woodhouse stately home. If you go there add to your visit with a meal at the George Dragon. A lovely pub inside serving a good variety of beers excellent food. Our walking group went there for lunch after a walk around Wentworth Elsecar. There were 10 of us to help we had pre-ordered. The food was served quickly was of excellent quality. Staff are very helpful friendly.

What can I say, 2 degrees outside and I was so cold I had to ask if the heating was on. The reply was you need to sit at 3 certain tables which were occupied so no joy there. I later felt the radiator and there was hardly any warmth coming from it. Nothing worse than eating in a cold. Middle of winter not good enough. The carpets were grubby and looked like they had been down 40 years. Food was ok,I had the steak pie with chips,more like potato wedges. My husband had the ribeye steak not cheap but it was decent steak,with,once again chips which were more like wedges. All I can say is I won’t be going back I’m not spending £50 to sit in a cold pub

We have always loved the G&D and being fairly local we often call in for a drink whilst out walking, sometimes eating too. However this occasion felt different. All the tables were reserved and when I asked if there was anywhere to sit the member of staff asked if I had booked. I replied that we only wanted a drink. There was one high table free near the bar. There were a couple of customers sitting by the door vaping. The manner of the staff wasn’t friendly or welcoming and they were heard to moan to each other about a large party who were in for lunch.
