"We visited Stamford to meet some friends and visited Gooch's for lunch as it is Dog friendly. As we had our dog with us it's sometimes difficult to find Dog friendly places. It's ok in the Summer as most places accept Dogs outside , but in the Cold Winter you want to be able to go inside in the warm. This was a big plus for us being Dog friendly and the doggy part is downstairs and backs onto the outside which is great if your Dog needs to go to the toilet. If you didn't want to be near dogs you can sit upstairs so it suits a variety of people , dog friendly or not. We ordered our food which consisted of 2 panini's , one with Southern fried chicken and the other with stilton , poached pear walnut. We also ordered a large peroni and a deluxe hot chocolate. The staff were friendly and our drinks were bought to us in about 10 minutes. Wow... I couldn't believe my hot chocolate. It was like a meal in itself. It was huge , with whipped cream , marshmallows , gingerbread crumb and chocolate sauce. I can honestly say it was the best hot chocolate I've ever had. Our panini's arrived shortly after. Both our panini's were lovely and came with a small fancy side salad and a pot of coleslaw. My panini of stilton , poached pear walnut was delicious. It is however a bit on the pricey side as my deluxe hot chocolate, a large peroni and 2 panini's came to nearly £36. It was worth paying though as we don't go often and was a lovely treat. We would highly recommend this place and definitely great if you take your dog."

Perfect outdoor spot for a morning coffee with our very young puppy. Overlooking the meadows and catching the morning sunshine. Oh, and the coffee is great too!

Really lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was tasty and really decently priced. Highly recommend, you can have something light if you’re not very hungry or a bigger meal if you are!

The best, crispiest, most delicious jacket potato I have ever had! If you like your skins crispy, this is the place for you. Coupled with lovely staff and awesome Nutella milkshake…. What’s not to love? Ver carta

Called in for a coffee. Ended up having a cocktail each. Espresso for hubby. Limoncello and ice cream and Prosecco for me. Had a baguette for lunch. Everything top notch. Would certainly recommend this lovely spot. Prices very reasonable. We sat at the outside patio. If you are in Stamford for a visit call in. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

We requested the staff if we could sit outside under the umbrella -we were told there were no tables with umbrella available . A few minutes later a couple entered and requested if they could sit outside under the umbrella. The staff took an umbrella out of storage placed it outside for the couple. Do the staff discriminate some clients or they just couldn’t be bothered and unhelpful. The service was very slow unfortunately. The food was ok . Ver carta

How amazing is Gooch’s, we had the venue for an evening for a girly get together. All the staff were excellent but Chelsea was outstanding she couldn’t do enough to accommodate us. The food was delicious and the GF’s were well catered for the table was covered in an abundance of really yummy food, nobody left hungry . The drinks menu was so good with a range of cocktails biggest dilemma of the evening was which one to have next. Lovely well decorated venue with an amazing view of Stamford meadows, and so clean.

My wife and I dropped in today . We usually visit about once a month . We went outside as usual and ordered 2 coffees and a panini I wasn't hungry . The bill total was £20.95 , which is either acceptable to you or not , your choice , but the prices are on the menu , so buy or don't buy , it's up to you . The drinks came in about 5 minutes or so and apart from a good amount of my coffee being in the saucer when it arrived were as usual satisfactory . The food didn't appear until after I enquired as to it's whereabouts we did notice that a couple of tables that ordered after us had already been served . Some 20 minutes after the initial ordering , the panini arrived and very nice it looked too...

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
