"A lovely little Café in a nice area in Hamburg. The setting is very nice and unique. It is a pleasure to spend some time there, drinking coffee and enjoying the wonderful pastries and cakes they serve. Unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't sit outside. The reason why I give only 4 points is the slow service. It took them 20 minutes to bring the order... and it was no fancy things we ordered. It wasn't really crowded so I don't understand why it took that long. Nevertheless I will go there again."

My daughters just love the waffles with icecream and have visited for years now! One of the few places with sun outside in the summer months. Authentic place.

Super hot inside sadly. But once you stripped down to the thinnest layer of your outfit you are served on very friendly manner and most importantly decent food. Slightly overpriced.

Stopped here for a quick soup. Super place, nice atmosphere and decor. Very cosy and friendly staff. Delicious and good value. All the food looked amazing and I would have no problem splashing out for something a little fancier.

Last saturday we went to Gretchens Villa for breakfast. We were there at 09.55am and we were not allowed to sit down before the restaurant opens at 10:00am. That was a bit fussy! The breakfast was fussy as well, I mean physical. Am teasty but small breakfast.

Went for brunch which was very nice. There are only 3-5 dishes to pick from but all sounded great. The food was really good, the service was very friendly and the coffee tasted good. We sat outside on benches in the sun which was nice (but got too warm in the end). Prices are OK for breakfast but not cheap. Try the Müsli when you are there Ver carta

Very interesting location, inspiring decoration of the restaurant, menu looks interesting .....but ... 70% of the things from the menu were not available .... because it was a busy day as the waitress explained (?!) .....instead of having lunch we ended up having a beer and a sandwich ..... We needed to wait 45 minutes to get the beer and sandwich served. From what I saw the restaurant wasn't very busy, the service was just very slow.

Had brunch here with friends during the weekend. Very very packed interior, so difficult to know where to stand whilst you wait for a table, and noise a bit too much. Friendly staff, and extensive menu. Prices were a bit on the high side, but portions were fairly large (though dishes themselves were nothing special). Food took quite a bit of time to be delivered, seemed like the kitchen was overloaded. All in all a fine place, but prefer brunch places with a little bit of a more relaxed atmosphere.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
