"Hi have visited this restaurant in January this year. I went there twice in three days.I liked the place, which is rustic and cozy, and I was also not disappointed by the food.So the first time was an excellent dinner, with attentive and friendly young staff. The second time two days later I decided to go again and was deeply disappointed by the manners of an older waiter. His attitude was borderline with being offensive. I am Italian, speak perfect German and grow up in Darmstadt. The second visit was with my wife, hoping to have a relaxed and romantic dinner. The waiter spoiled everything! the impression we had is that he did not like Asian people, as there was another table of Asians nearby, who have been treated very badly, while another table of Germans was all smiles and attention. By taking the orders he made sure we could not understand a word and was not helpful with any suggestion, actually was very impatient and pushy in taking it. When bringing the food he literally throw the dishes on the table. When we wanted to order more drinks, he made sure to look the other way, I had to go to the bar myself and order my drinks. It was an impressive show of rudeness, until to the bill, where, obviously I did not leave any tips, contrary to the first day where we have been generous with the younger waiters which had been very attentive and friendly. The nearby table did not go much better, they have been left with the empty dishes and glasses over half hour sitting in front of them and the restaurant which can seat at least 80 people had only four tables occupied including ours. I hope for this place that this man was a temporary solution, as the Restaurant and the food deserve much better."

Central location, nice place to have dinner. You feel at least like 50 years in the past, decoration well preserved. Food and beverages are normal, nothing really special.

We had an excellent meal at this atmospheric restaurant. We had the special of the day as recommended by the waiter and were delighted. Medallions of veal fillet cooked perfectly. Great service and beer too.

The dining room in the oldest hotel in Darmstadt is absolutely lovely. Service is excellent and the seasonal menu leaves you spoilt for choice. Hirsh goulash, wildswein oh what to have? Problem solved go back tomorrow. Ver carta

I have been to this restaurant 3 times. The first time was great, I sat inside and had a peaceful dinner and excellent fish. The second time, my husband and I sat outside but the waiter was grumpy and rushed. The third time was the same grumpy waiter and we sat outside. I won't be going back. Everything is not about the quality of the food but most important the service.

The Bockshaut was recommended to us by a local business person. Located in a wonderful old building, the dining room is old school German and very comfortable. The menu offered a wide assortment of German-- and Hessian-- dishes. Three in our party had soup, all were satisfied. Another had a local sausage combination platter with veggies, also very good. Our waitress was a lively and attentive young lady. A good experience was had by all.

I normally steer clear of hotel restaurants, but this was different. I booked a room here because my normal hotels were full. When I got back to my room after work it was very cold outside. Being hungry and not wanting to brave the cold I decided to give the restaurant a try. I am very glad I did. The restaurant has an old school casual elegance that is extremely comfortable. The wood floor, furniture, and ceiling made me feel warm and welcomed. As recommended I went with the house special which happened to be lamb. I have eaten at many places in the area and the food here is very good - fresh and well prepared. You can tell that the chef really cares that he gives you his best. It was hones... Ver carta

A wonderful dining experience in a historic and beautiful site. Located in a building dating to 1548, the Bockshaut has been serving dinner guests since the 1790's. Here you will find a relaxed atmosphere with a gentle blend of locals and repeat visitors from around the world. A small, intimate restaurant that serves delicious local food and specializes in game meats. The venison is unbelievably delicious and I highly recommend it. I am not a big fan of German wines, but their wine list is extensive and (I am told) quite good. I prefer the beers of the region and always find the dunkle bier (dark beer) to go especially well with the house dishes. Nice enough for a special occasion and relaxe...

This place is one very old restaurant in Darmstadt, if not the oldest. It has the charm of past times and mostly only elderly people are sitting there...The food was just something to make your stomach full, lacking any interesting flavors - wether it was the Nizza salad or the carpaccio. Upon asking for more bread (there were only 3 slices of baguette per salad), we were looked at as if we had asked for something huge. The amuse bouche was the real highlight...a date in bacon...All my hopes were set on the fact that they offer Coccola icecream (great icecreamery around the corner)...but only in 3 flavors - green sauce and strawberry basil...the others like chocolate etc are just from a supe...
