"I was staying locally at Fontfroide Abbey and although this was 10 miles away it was worth it. I booked in for five evenings and to eat a four course meal with wine for 24 Euros was a find. Not only were portions generous but...the quality and service were excellent. Compared with a local up market place I had visited another night, this was a place to return to. The service was friendly and the food in the best tradition of regional cooking. Helpings were of a decent size and this may be because the town hosts a rugby club which is celebrating its centenary! The local were friendly and it was clear that they came here in numbers and it did not depend on the tourist. The most delicious starter was the Millefleur of Chevre, as tower of chevre mousse with aubergines and tomato, and a salad dressed with walnuts and almonds. I chose this every time. The pate course was not unlike a Lincolnshire haslet in taste. Any meat was cooked over a wood fire and the steak served with artichoke, spaced apple and raisin, with a bubble and squeak type of potato, cabbage, bacon and herbs was wonderful. I would not normally have chosen squid, but as i had confidence in their menu, i was brave and I crossed a frontier for a variation of fish on Friday! This place not only served excellent food but gave great value and excellent service. I would return any day!"

Came here with friends... the staff are very friendly and pleasant, the food excellent, the wine superb. Lovely evening; unhurried and gastronomic. Highly recommended.

I never thought that this sort of place still existed. Family run; all home cooking; brilliant and friendly service and amazing rapport qualité-prix. Four of us had a three course lunch (plus an extra terrine course thrown in) including quarter of a litre of wine...each and coffee for 75 euros. I cannot commend this place more. A Tuesday midday it was heaving with people there must have been 60. Go there while you can. Ver carta

We ate here on a tuesday lunch time, we had booked but it was packed, nevertheless the service was excellent. We chose a menu for 17 Euros including some house wine. The salad starter was served with a slice of wonderful rustic bread with ham,...cheese and pesto. My friend and I had the ribs for mains and my husband had the steak. There was an unexpected course of paté in between the starter and the main which was very good. The strawberry dessert was a little sweet but still enjoyable. At just over 50 Euros for 3 people, no wonder it was full. Atmosphere and service were excellent.

a really vintage hotel, simply almost rustic, door in the bathroom would not close, but it was clean. we were booked by our autorettungsdienst, they were told that a diabetist was in the party and we would need food, sad when we checked...in we were told that the restaurant was full and there were other restaurants 10/15 minutes to foot in the city, we did and there was, naiw we had thought that the inhabitants had access to the restaurant, live and learn, live and learn. as with free wlan it was only at the reception and since we tried to organize the return of our car life was difficult. we were with the family in a small village near carcassonne and they brought us to this restaurant, which is also a hotel. When we arrived, we were the only ones in the dining room. we ordered drinks and then chose our meals. because our French is not the best and her English is just a little better, we decided not to have a starter and order our head. I chose tournedos au poivre, or filet steak that is cooked on wood. it was phenominal! probably one of the best steaks I've ever had, and I eat a lot of steak on vacation. the only side was the ones who were not the best. to complete everything when the Dessert menu arrived, my favorite at all times was there, rum baba, years since I saw this...

This was our third visit. Our first two led us to the conclusion that the quality of the food more than offset the rather average accommodation but this year the accommodation was very poor indeed. To be specific: the toilet seat was loose and there...was a leak from the base; the shower took ages to heat up; the shower head fixing was broken so we had to shower holding it with one hand; the shower tray filled up and the floor of the bathroom became soaked. The shower problems were reported but the only response was that we should let it run and it would heat up it did to be fair but the other issues made for a less than pleasant stay. That said, the restaurant was superb and we’d go there f...

"Visiting for lunch a few times these sojourns and during September is understandably not as busy as June the place was still quite busy, so I would suspect that the booking is worth being just to be safe. A smiling reception is always a good start... and as usual we have experienced here again. A high percentage of locals is indeed a good sign. There is a wide range of tariffs all inexpensive and we still need to be dissatisfied with quality. The favorite of my wife at our September visits was the Poke Bowl E16 with raw tuna, which had melted in the mouth, while my on this occasion was the Burger Guinguette E18, which came with the usual circumcisions. As usual, their chips were great. A very easy to drink 70cl pichet by rouge at E7 supports with digestion during and then follow a powder and coffee to round a very pleasant lunch in the right way. For sailors? There are many moorings within a short walk, for riders, parking is sometimes interesting in peak times, but no problem in September at all, and if you arrive with the push bike as we often do, then we still have a problem to experience. So far we have only visited lunch and really have to see how it is for an evening session now there is an idea... A friendly, welcoming and unpretentious restaurant, La Guinguette is always on our list of excellent favorites and there are some on site and I would like to recommend."
