"Tucked away in the small village of Wylie, a few miles outside Blackwood, this is a gem of a place for excellent food and service. Our host was Alex who was very attentive without being intrusive. He stocks a wide range of drinks, many of them produced locally including beers, cider, whiskey and gin, as well as the larger brands. We've been to the venue a few times before, mainly for Sunday lunch always beautifully cooked and presented. It does get very busy on a Sunday, so you may need to book. The venue has a very welcoming and homely feel about it with a lounge including sofas and armchairs as well as the more traditional seating. The evening menu includes many common dishes, but usually served with a twist e.g. belly pork with home made black pudding, or home made beefburgers that are about one and half inches thick served with a side of chicken wings. For starters, we had 3 dipping dishes between 4 of us. We chose calamari, fish goujons and chicken balls in batter there were other options) £12 between the 4 of us ! All the meals tasted fantastic and the portions are good too. We were 4 very happy customers and the price was very competitive. Although slightly off the beaten track, its worth it to get a warm welcome, fantastic food and excellent service we can't wait to go back !"

We have been back and fore here for several years. The dinner is always fantastic, the service previously used to be very slow, the last couple of visits the this seems to have changed. Very organised and very little waiting. Highly recommend

The Islwyn Inn is a really friendly venue with lovely food and great customer service. I went on a work lunch event and had a great time. The food is high quality and the team worked hard to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommended.

Beautiful Sunday lunch today, cooked perfectly! I had the mushrooms to start, my husband had the soup, then both had the Beef dinner, absolutely gorgeous! No room left for desserts today for us but saw others and they looked lovely. Thankyou for booking us in last minute due to a cancellation, best dinner around and wonderful service as always! X

We chose this because it was dog friendly. But so much more. This was the friendliest Restaurant, professional, courteous and kind. The food was amazing, I would’ve paid double. The portions more than ample. Even puppy got a treat. We were treated to free sampling of Welsh whiskey and an Italian wine. Superb, honestly superb Viv, Tim and Gracie the pup for Kent

We frequently visit the Islwyn inn for Sunday lunch and it’s always the same and always absolutely stunning. I just feel it’s time I write a review. We dined there today and I had the pork and my wife had the beef Sunday lunch. We both agree that nothing comes close to how tasty and generous portion size we get at the Islwyn Inn. Such friendly service and beautiful surroundings. Well done everyone involved.

Went for Sunday lunch for our daughter's birthday. The food is outstanding and very good value for a 3 course meal 10/10. Sadly the same cannot be said about the service. Our meal was booked for 12.30 so we thought it would be nice to arrive a little earlier as they open at 12 and have a drink in the separate bar area. A gentleman came in and told us to go straight to the restaurant area and made us feel very unwelcome, like he didn't want us there. Why have a bar area if you don't want people in there. This spoiled our experience which is a shame as the food is so good. 10/10 for food 4/10 for service.
