"Review done: My family and I am a huge fan of Kerala dishes. I’ve been to several Kerala restaurants in London but they don’t come anywhere near the quality and the taste served in Kayak restaurant. As starters we had the Mixed seafood platter and Kayal Konju Chilly. It’s certainly fair to say the starters made us hungrier and more excited to get the mains. As mains, we had the full thilapi, porotta, chicken curry and ghee rice. They were delicious as expected. After polishing off the plates, we moved to the deserts pineapple Kesari and semiya payasam. Knowing that we are in Kayal restaurant, one of our friends asked us to take away some dishes for them as they have been here a few times. The staff were very friendly, polite and very knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu. The restaurant is big and airy. We will be back!"

This is a great place for lunch with a really good business lunch offer which is tremendous value. You get a selection of small dishes which are really tasty. Staff look after you well. It was nice and cool when we visited on a hot day.

Aww! Amazing Kerala-style restaurant with the fragrance of coconut oil in it . After a long, I tried some proper south Indian cuisine, and I would say it's worth trying in here for dinner or lunch. Recommend to have quick bites of fish pollichal which get wrapped in banana leaf still can remember the taste of those

One of the best south Indian I've been to. Being a South Indian myself I can confirm that the food is excellent and all the south Indian items are very authentic. Staff are excellent they are very polite and service is pretty quick. Vio and Niraj are really very kind and helpful. Lot of veg options and they have big tables for large groups. Ver carta

There were only two tables taken when we arrived so was surprised to have to chase the waiting staff to order drinks, especially as it was a very hot evening. The food was excellent, but some of the portion sizes were small with only a few petite cubes of lamb in the chef’s signature dish. They really need to up their wine game the Pinot Grigio was underwhelming and the Merlot tasted really poor.

The food is very delicious and the price is reasonable. The grilled fish as a starter is my favorite although it’s a bit spicy. The king prawn starter is also very nice. We ordered a main- chicken stew in coconut sauce, this is probably not the best main for strong taste people as it is quite mild. Compared with amazing starter the main is so so. In terms of the price this meal is definitely worth the value. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall, considering everything 5 out of 5 dining experience in this restaurant.

Kayal has the potential to be great. Menu reads well and the flavours are good. They rebranded a year or so back and now serve the curries in odd large-lipped bowls. This means you need a side plate to put your rice on. Value for money is really not up to par here though. I ordered the 'chefs signature ' lamb curry, £16.45, Tender cubes of lamb . But I only got a few small grisly pieces (see photo). The meen curry was better but at £17 before rice and breads it had better be! Bill was in the 60s for some poppadoms, 2 curries, one rice, one appam, two desserts and two half drinks. We pay less at our favourite Sri Lankan restaurant in central London... Ver carta

Kayal has good ambience which gives you vibes of a typical kerala restaurant(in uk). Has wide variety of food in its menu and nothing felt over priced. Say around 10 pounds per person excluding drinks. And coming to drinks they do serve Indian beers like Kingfisher. Service was great and the staffs where friendly... We ordered a sea food platter which wasn't the best I ve tried... We also ordered beef roast which was okay... Will visit again during lunch time as i am told that their lunch menu is better... Has limited parking on site, so might struggle a bit during peak hours... Even though food wasn't exceptional, the overall experience was satisfactory. Will definitely try again and update...

Not sure we had a pleasant experience at Kayal Byfleet this week after making an hour’s drive each way to get from where we live! We previously visited Leamington Spa restaurant which didn’t disappoint us, hence dined without looking at any reviews. To start with, it took 15 20mins and couple of chases to get someone to take our drinks order. Food also took its own sweet time to arrive on a week day where only 20% of the tables were occupied. Food Kerala cuisine??? You have really re defined “keralan” food :D absolutely poor taste and not at all authentic. Check out the picture how Kerala porotta looks like, what was served to me is called pappadam where I come from ;o Will I visit again? Ab...

"Disappointed to have booked and not be warned about the mezze being the only available option. Told when sat down. Not much option but to accept. Food great. Tried to charge for each of us there were adults and an year old and year old despite agreeing to do deal for the of them when we ordered. When asked for the bill I was over charged. They didn’t leave bill on table and just tell you the value and present the card machine immediately. I queried and he went to alter. I paid. I realised that in fact they had charged more than the first time. I ended up having to ask for a print out of the bill on my way out. He gave it to me. It wasn’t even our bill plus they’d charged for the set menu!!?!?!!. I wrote down what we had eaten and drank and we added it up properly together and he had indeed overcharged by He couldn’t refund the card and so gave cash. Lush food. If you go please check what’s on offer before you go. Then insist that the bill if left on your table like in a normal restaurant. This gives the customer the time to check all is well before paying. I really felt the chap was trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Don’t let them! He did the same to another table which had a couple and a young child of about or Charged The excuse was that he couldn’t deduct dine in because we only wanted set menus. Rubbish. We have eaten out all month in the scheme in restaurant in bristol and in central London and this is the only time I’ve heard this tosh. Chap could put whatever he wanted into the till ...it’s his restaurant. of us dined. x to come of bill. I found the whole invoicing experience poor and embarrassing."
