"We ate at this restaurant prior to a visit to the museum at Kreismuseum Wewelsburg. It was a lovely summer afternoon so we sat outside in the nice beer garden. I had booked a table, thinking it may be busy during a Sunday lunch time but actually there was no need as no one was sitting inside and there were a few free tables outside. The service was friendly and attentive; the staff speak a little English and they do provide English menus and with our basic German, we got on just fine. The inside of the restaurant is a time warp, with many of the items dating back to prior to World War 2 and they also have the original pews from the SS era (the owner will show you the original Nazi carvings if you are interested). The venue was the “village community house” during the Nazi era and was intended as the village’s cultural focal point (as defined by the SS), hence the presence of the pews. Due to the glorious weather, no one was sitting inside but this would be an excellent place to dine in the colder months. The staff were very accommodating and had no problem with us sharing one starter between three (being aware of just how generous portions can be in typical German restaurants). We shared the house appetizer variety, which consisted of mini chicken spring rolls, cold meats, cheeses and grilled vegetables; it was okay but a bit of a strange mix of German and Asian cuisine. For the mains we had pork medallions with mushroom sauce and mini potato rosti as well as schnitzels and chips. I also had a warm apple strudel with vanilla ice-cream and cream. The food was as expected; hearty, tasty and generous. The restaurant is set in a very pleasant village, worthy of a look around, when visiting the Kreismuseum in Wewelsburg."

A good restaurant with an interesting history. Serves typical german meals and good selection of german beers. This is a really good place to go with your family or a group of friends. The building is stunning on its own but everything else about this place is really good also.

Went over to visit a friend who lives in Padenborne. We visited Wewelsberg castle before and he suggested lunch there. We went for schnitzels with a curry based paprika sauce which was amazing. Followed by waffles which were fantastic. The host, setting and service were all top notch. The bar itself has a history which I found to be interesting as well. Would recommend going here and I can't wait till I go back.

Just had a meal here with my partner, who is visiting Wewelsburg castle tomorrow. It was just us there for quite a while and my partner asked if he could take some photos, which was no problem. The waiter then showed us the carvings on the ends of the pews and around the restaurant. For a building built in 1631 it was quite amazing. The food was plentiful and very good. Service excellent and if we were staying another night we'd definitely go back. We were surprised there was only the 3 of us dining, and we found it was well worth the journey.

Run by a HongKong german family, this historic Gasthaus delivered a hearty lunch to sustain us during our visit to Wewelsburg castle. Quite an experience - duck with red cabbage and pear poached in red wine, chicken curry with mango and robust venison goulash with knodel were all excellent, while schnitzel with peppers also hit the spot. Must go back at night time to get the true atmosphere of Himmler's former private dining club when strategy SS summits took place at the castle. Reeks of history, could do well to have some rooms in the gallery.

Visited the castle and this was the only place open on a Saturday evening! And we were really pleased it was. This place has had several different owners over the past few years but it's current owners certainly know how to provide a good German meal. The food was delicious, there were the expected extra large portions, but so tasty and so well cooked. I had the pork knuckle with roast potatoes, but in fact they were roasted fondant potatoes and the most delicious potatoes I've ever had. The pork knuckle was so generous, half of it went home with our friends for their dog. There were only a couple of members of staff on duty and they coped brilliantly with the unexpected rush of customers.Thi...
