"Let's start with the positives - and there are many of them. This is one of a small number of restaurants that is reliable, well-priced, likeable to all generations and it has been the scene of numerous dinners with friends and family. It is just that sort of place and it fits the bill perfectly. Off one of the many narrow passages of Antibe's Vieille Ville, this attractive restaurant offers diners a beautiful outdoor courtyard setting, tables on terraces and at the base of a manicured, shady tree, lots of staff operating efficiently with good language skills, a menu that offers staples with a bit more imagination than other places, a wine list that would cover most tastes and white table cloths. The menu offers a couple of prix fixé options, a children's menu, and a good assortment of à la carte dishes. It pays to look at the menu very carefully as it takes the form of a newspaper with some interesting articles on recipes and regional specialities. On other occasions, it has been a place where escargots and other French delicacies have been experienced for the first time by the more spirited and adventurous. It's only in the detail that it disappoints a little. The fois gras gets served without toast and it finally arrives after the third request; the salad leaves accompanying dishes are old and wilted; the Courgette velouté comes with a large quantity of aubergine floating on the top which wasn't mentioned in the description (that might be fine for some but, for this reviewer, the presence of aubergine made it inedible); a delicious sauce on a main course but only a tiny quantity of it when the dish should have done with more (and more aubergine that hadn't made it into the description on the menu, fortunately on the side of the plate). However, the canard was one of the best eaten by one of the guests and the conchiglioni saumon was well-liked. There was not very much left on anyone's plate, although rather a large quantity of linguine tomate remained for reasons of an aftertaste that made it seem not quite right. Particular praise should go to the staff, one of whom remembered an order for eight, in English, without writing it down, with complete accuracy and good humour as well. We had some travellers and made it an early night without desserts, which was certainly a shame. A friendly and immediate bill was presented and we were on our way with a smiling exchange of "merci beaucoup" from several of us, and a cheerful "merci à vous" in response. My memo to self is to ask what comes with the dish and, if aubergine gets mentioned, or its well known camouflage ratatouille, make another choice."
