"We had embarked on the Eyewitness Guide walking tour of Auteuil and this restaurant was identified as a place that Moliere and his friends patronized in the 17th century. Well, we figured it had changed some since then, and expected that there was a certain tourist quality we might encounter, but decided to continue with our walk for a bit, then return for lunch.Best meal I had on this trip to Paris. "Lapin a la moutarde." So simple, just a half of a roasted rabbit served with fresh pasta in a sauce of mustard. I don't think the ingredients involved more than grainy mustard, butter, salt and pepper. But it was simply perfect. My husband had a very good beef tartare and we both went for the creme caramel for dessert. Oh, and a half carafe of red wine. And coffee. We came in about 1:00 or so and there were just a couple of other diners there. We had hoped to snag the table in the window, but it was reserved. Our table was perfectly fine and the the chairs unusually comfortable. The service was quick and friendly--in fact much quicker than we were used to. But once our meal was served, everything slowed to the usual French tempo. A delicious meal. Why hurry.Despite the fact that this seemed like a more elegant kind of restaurant, and Auteuil is pretty posh a district, the cost was fair. I think the whole meal came in just under 50 euros.I gotta figure out how to make that rabbit. I have access to good rabbit where I live in Maryland. I certainly can get good mustard and good quality butter. It was just so, so, so good."
