"I went to this restaurant just before Christmas with my daughter. We had a hearty breakfast before heading out for a walk at Wicken Fen. The cafe staff were friendly and accommodating for those with celiac disease. However, we were both disappointed with the presentation of the breakfast. The portions were small and didn't fill the plate as expected for a full breakfast. My gluten-free breakfast included 1 egg, bacon, beans, and gluten-free toast. A flat white and an orange juice cost over £6. While I have heard good things about the quality of the ingredients used, I won't be returning for breakfast anytime soon."

"I booked a table at the Merry Monk on line for Sunday Lunch, I meant to book at the Merry Monk in Taunton Somerset, on discovering my mistake I quickly rang to explain why we were unable to come and frankly expected a sympathetic hearing , I was bluntly told as I had booked on line and given my debit card details I would be charged £100 for a no show ! I asked if this could be waived due to our circumstances and the person I was speaking to, hung up on me. My husband rang later and spoke to another person who assured me the owner would ring back when he was free, he didn't! The proprietor of the Merry Monk Taunton said this was not the first time that had happened. Lesson learned if the booking requires payment card details, go elsewhere! Top marks to the Merry Monk in Taunton who found us a table and served us with old world courtesy on a very busy Sunday"

"Good beer garden and ok for a stop off if your passing but I wouldn't go out of your way to visit. The beer ran off while we were there and the first thing we ordered was not available so we had to choose something different. One meal (Fajitas) was good, the other was rather lacking, Chicken with mushroom sauce, was just chicken, mushroom sauce with mash. No vegetables or sides. The place looks like it could all do with a bit of love. Food: 3"

"Met a friend for a late breakfast, greeted by a pleasant enough lady blond hair and glasses)who advised that no sausages available, fair enough but makes a mockery of the rather authoritarian instruction on the menu that no alterations can be made to the set breakfast choice. Order taken at the table by a different also pleasant lady also blond hair and glasses). Id ordered the sam to eat as my friend, toast with a side order of beans and in addition bacon and black pudding. My food arrived served by a 3rd female staff member short, stocky build and dark hair) but minus the baked beans. I pointed this out politely and was challenged by this charmless employee to the effect I hadn’t ordered them, no apology. She then turned to the lady who had taken the order I have no issue that she omitted them from the order, anyone can make a mistake) and then barked at her to ‘make sure they go on the bill’ within my sight and hearing. The beans came, the breakfast was mediocre and the performance of the woman who obviously has a higher opinion of herself than others might coupled with cold stark surroundings are sufficient to encourage me to go elsewhere. There’s no place for rudeness like this when business claim they are struggling, and there is a perfectly good alternative venue almost next door. I’d have given a good service rating but for the antics of this rude woman."
