"Really saddens me to be writing this, this has been one of my favourite places for over 10 years but this is the second visit in a couple of months where the food has been terrible, and today I don’t feel the staff were overly friendly either. Visited for a birthday treat with friends, had to ask to be served, then the waitress appeared a little miserable. Food came out and I’d ordered a Grilled Halloumi salad, at £10.70 I expected a nice full salad, what I was actually presented with was a small amount of chopped bits at the bottom of a bowl, no eggs as stated and quite frankly no where near enough salad for £10.70! I sent it back for the eggs only for it to then be brought back out with avocado instead and told they had no eggs. I do not like avocado so at this point I sent it back and didn’t eat anything. The member of staff (sue) was apologetic and offered me chips, but I’m currently trying to make better food choices and was looking forward to a nice salad. As this is the second bad visit recently I am afraid I won’t be back. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful place but has really gone downhill recently."

"this is a quirky old building with friendly helpful staff from the arrival to the departure with the usual 'spoons menu and great prices in between. our room was spacious, the bed was solid, but comfortable and very large. all linen were immaculate white. we were two floors up and no noise from down or other guests. the room looked a little tired and needed a touch-up, (note to pure look behind the bathroom door. but at the price was still excellent. pay attention to the parking space on the back of the building, there are now only two disabled rooms and that 's it, the other rooms are a little further on being the property of an adjacent business, so for all other parkings its just a little further down the road either on the short or long stay 'pay and display', both favorable. the location could not be more central and convenient in this historic and interesting Welsh city."

"since they were obviously very short employees, the working people have made a great task to please everyone, from the reception to the dining room staff. we have booked with groupon. £135 for a standard room, 2 meals with a bottle of wine plus breakfast. the room was great with an amazing comfortable bed, tea and coffee as well as old fashion bathroom. dinner had a big choice, breakfast as much as they wanted. for this price, you really couldn't owe it. the inner of the castle is amazing and chew around the ground. After dinner we really recovered with a drink around the open fire where we met another local couple that was really friendly. the castle is located in a very picturesque old town that is worth a walk. we will definitely go back and enjoy dressing up and lord and dame of the home for an evening. heartily recommend a visit!"

"We decided to book a table here as we were visiting Ruthin and saw that it was dog-friendly. It is in a beautiful, quiet setting with stunning views and has a car park which is free to use for patrons. We took the opportunity to walk the dogs for a couple of miles in the nature reserve opposite, before entering the pub for some food and drink. Both of these were spot on. I tried the Hobgoblin session IPA and Butcombe ale which were both great. My wife had a lime and soda and a glass of Malbec, which was very nice indeed. We shared a starter of Pretzel Breads with Salami and Mustard. My main was the Pork Schnitzel and my wife had the Cheese and Pork Wurst with mash and sauerkraut. All of the food was just perfect. The portions were huge and the quality was spot on. It was all delicious and we were very pleased. I would say it was great value for money. The inside of the pub was large, yet very cosy feeling and the decor was both traditional, welcoming and full of character and stories. The owners are also very welcoming and have stories to tell too! I wish we had been able to stay longer, but we will definitely return for the food, drink, atmosphere and chat. What a find!!! Oh, and Cheesy Madam is something you'll just have to ask the owner about!"

"The atmosphere inside was nice and quiet. Nobody was shouting. The bar staff could have been a bit quicker to serve. The menu was varied and sectioned off making it easier to find what you wanted. Payment is taken when you ordered. The food arrived quickly and was hot. There was condiments on a table close by so the table wasn't cluttered. The batter on the fish was very good on both occasions we ate there. Both times we ordered off the smaller plate option but the difference between the fish on the two days was not the same. The new cocktail with R Whites raspberry lemonade was delicious. The only problem I wanted the drink making upto a pint. The member of staff didn't know what to do, so made me two normal sized drinks. If we are ever in Ruthin again we will definitely revisit The Castle Hotel.
