"Lovely setting. Good atmosphere. Professional and friendly hostess (owner? but not as we’d hoped. High prices (yes I know it’s 2023 but these need to be justified. Table service not particularly attentive (salt and pepper, other sauces? . Cullen skink at £12 too watery and not enough fish. Mussels main less than the mussels starter at The Douglas in Brodick (and not as tasty , crusty bread (as alternative to skinny fries about as crusty as the top of an undercooked rice pudding. So disappointed. This was our last evening after a super week on Islay and Jura. Better chef or just a cook more acquainted with what the menu offers? Sacrilege but try the Port Charlotte hotel up the road."

Friendly, obliging staff, just what we needed for a family meal out. The food was lovely, and the lounge area where we ate was very comfortable. Would definitely recommend.

Visiting since Ian opened the seafood kitchen after extending his business empire (lochindaal hotel) . Ian the owner is a wonderful welcoming man as is Paula a great Geordie waitress. Seafood

Given a Seafood Platter voucher for my birthday,in October 2021. Has been so worth the wait to experience Ian’s so fresh, locally sourced extensive platter which included 2 whole lobsters; absolutely delicious and very friendly, efficient family team.

Great wee find in Islay, been a few years since I visited last but the welcome was just the same, kind and friendly. The host Ian is a gem and nothing is too much trouble. The food is good ,freshly cooked and served from staff who make you feel at home. Ver carta

I had one of the most amazing seafood meals ever and super value for money. To start langoustines then crab claws (lots), a bottle of Prosecco. Hubby chicken goujons then scallops plus salad chips and bread. Lovely ambiance, all the locals drinking, eating and chatting , really nice server . Definitely the place to eat in Port Charlotte.

Warning: this restaurant has recently been taken over and many of the great reviews reflect the previous owners and not the current ones. My wife and I had the seafood plate at £30 a head and it turned out to be a poor decision. The crab claws and langoustines were clearly overcooked and did not taste at all fresh. The scallops were fine, though. If you choose to eat here, avoid the seafood and go for a cheaper option. The staff were not particularly welcoming or friendly which was unusual for Islay in my experience. That was something I could have overlooked had the food been adequate. Try Port Mor Community Cafe along the road for a cheaper and more cheerful alternative.

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
