"A pleasant little cafe in the heart of Ormskirk. I went there for lunch. As we entered they asked if we wanted food or just coffee. As we wanted food, they admitted that there would be a 20min wait. No big deal for us. In the meantime we ordered a coffee and got the menu's. The place is clean and the staff friendly. The food did indeed arrived within 20mins of order and was very nice indeed. Well presented and more than enough for a lunch. The coffee is excellent tasting as well, as are the festive options such as the orange Hot chocolate and the Toffee Nut Maple Latte. Our course of southern fried chicken burger with chunky chips was very tasty, We didn't use the facilities. If I was to criticize, it would be the size of the coffees, considering the price, and no option for a large version of the same. I would seriously consider having large versions for the price indicated, and cheaper option for the size of the cups provided. Overall though, the food was very good and good value. Just sort out the coffee situation."

The cream scones at this restaurant are fantastic, served with gorgeous pots of tea. It is good value for money, although the only issue is that it can get a little noisy when the place is full.

Went in for breakfast, looks ok BUT waited over half an hour for food, which was of very poor quality and cheap produce. Also very over priced for what we had. Will not be visiting this cafe again!!!

a nice looking cafe BUT buyer beware! the inside of the cafe is lovely BUT the toilets ARE DISGRACEFUL !!!!!! They smell, no paper, nowhere to dry hands, handrails are rusty and there was a dirty, smelly and well worn mop stood in the corner....... surely the toilets are inspected by the hygiene people..... STAY AWAY

The staff at the restaurant were welcoming and attended to us promptly upon our arrival, despite being busy. They found us a table and gave us menus right away. After giving us time to look over the menu, they informed us of the soup of the day and took our order. Our drinks were prepared promptly and we enjoyed them while waiting for our meals - a veggie lasagne and a cheese omelette. The portion sizes were perfect for lunch and the food was comforting. We had a pleasant experience at the cafe due to its laid-back atmosphere and excellent staff. We would highly recommend it! Ver carta

I visited this cafe on a very cold afternoon for a coffee. The coffee was delicious, but I have a few observations to make. Firstly, a family was told the cafe was closed when they entered, but the waitress continued to serve a couple of customers with coffee and cake about 30 minutes later. One of the waitresses, who was supposed to finish her shift, was in the food preparation area brushing her hair, which is not good. Thirdly, when I asked where the toilet was, I was given directions only to be told that it wasn't working. I am not sure if I would return to this cafe, especially considering the basic hygiene issue of the waitress brushing her hair in the food preparation area.

I went here for lunch with my niece on New Year’s Day and was delighted at how helpful and accommodating they were to me (I am gluten intolerant). On entry, I asked if there were any gluten free choices on their menu. The waitress confessed that she wasn’t completely sure but that she knew the jacket potatoes were gluten free and offered to ring the kitchen to find out what fillings were ok for me to eat. The waitress then came over to our table to tell me that they had gluten free bread and that they could do me a sandwich if I wanted as well. I opted for a Caesar salad and they even did me some croutons for the salad using the gluten free bread they had! Wonderful experience and I will be...

"ok… I have deliberated whether to write this as don’t like to be negative but I think this place can take it so here goes… My husband booked a meal as a Christmas pressie this as I have always wanted to go to a michelin star restaurant and this is quite local to us. We arrived at The Barn which is quite basic in appearance as the downstairs looks like several saunas due to the amount of wood on show. Upstairs was nice and attractive. The staff are efficient but the whole set up is bit ‘cold’ and unfriendly. The staff were not particularly engaged; maybe this is how they were trained to be? The food consisted of amuse bouche which tbh didn’t really taste of much and this was a theme for the whole menu unfortunately. The homemade bread was delicious but the other offerings were tasteless and needed seasoning. -trout mousse in a lemon broth, including pips, was tasteless and the mussel mousse on pikelet didn’t taste of mussels. anyhow on to the main event-we ordered partridge -chewy and tasteless, the cured sea bream not seasoned sufficiently. The meals looked delicious-style over taste? Then the mains-my deer was tender and delicious but the sauces didn’t taste of much-I had to check the menu to see what they were meant to be. My husband ordered the steak-now at £62 this should have been SOME steak- what a shame it wasn’t -it was just a sirloin, bit chewy, not that great. Deffo not worth £62 of taste! It wasn’t caramelised on the outside and abit sinewy. The bone marrow bearnaise sauce was tasty though. Now I like cooking, I like food , I cook fresh meals every night but I’m not a chef. My first experience of food at this level… I will stick to local restaurants WITHOUT michelin stars at a fraction of the price -tbh I prefer my own home cooked meals! Is this a case of the emperors new clothes? Do people just think it’s good because they are told by someone else it’s fantastic? I’m disappointed in the experience at The Barn. Bit of a wash out and I will be asking for a meal at Bistro Verite in Birkdale next Christmas probs at a fraction of the price!"
