"While passing through Menton, we decided to eat there, the weather was gorgeous so we wanted to eat outside. After checking the reviews of all the restaurants which had an outside sitting area, around le Marché des Halles, we ended up going to Maison Martin et fils (right behind le marché des Halles), because the reviews were so much better. The only outside sitting area is very small and it seems to be more for people having a drink. We ate in, very charming decor, the very friendly owners sat us at our table and explained the different menu options as well as the plat du jour. Delicious regional olives were served with the apéritif. All French produce, regional dishes and wines (being that close to Italy a lot of restaurants around serve a mixture of dishes and products from both countries). Everything was super fresh and made there, e.g. La pichade Mentonnaise (pissaladière with tomatoes), la tourte aux blettes was divine, la salade composée was excellent full of fresh vegs, the fish was amazingly fresh and full of flavour, the steak was super tender, and the desserts were to die for (orange crème brûlée and vanilla pana cota with coulis). A little detail to most, but very important to me, the bread was a fresh rustic little pave and warm! I eat quite a lot, and I have to say, the portions were pretty big! The crème brûlée could have easily served 2 people, and I love my desserts but I couldn't even finish it! It's a shame because we felt like we had wasted food, more so because it all tasted so good! Don't order too much...Great service, great food, but you might want to book in advance, we were lucky to get a table without booking because we came at the opening at 12:00, but very quickly it got very busy and stayed that way the whole time we were there. Most were locals, always a good sign! Definitely a saved address in Menton!"

Good food and friendly service, however nothing super special. Reasonably priced. Somewhat dated decor.

Staff were attentive and we were very well looked after. The food was great and the burgers were the star of the show.

Food was good and reasonably priced. The waiters were a little overstretched so don't go if you're in a hurry. However a great ambience and very friendly. We had a great night out. Richard & Jackie and family

We ate dinner at Maison Martin et Flis by using TripAdvisor. The food was good and relatively tasty and the service and atmosphere were nice. The few waiters are trying to keep up the many tables but they've no chance. But that all we can say about this restaurant. Relatively it is an average restaurant but maybe in Menton its above average.

The place is ok if you are looking for cheap lunch deal. They have a menu for as little as 15 euros and you get 2 dishes for this: either salad and main or main and dessert. Price wise unbeatable for Menton. Food is ok. Service could be better. The restaurant is certainly loved and frequented by older people. Not great not bad but if you want a decent lunch for little money, go for it.

Our waiter was having a bad day. He forgot my wine and my wife's dessert, and he dropped a bottle of olive oil. Nevertheless, I liked him. He was friendly and energetic. I guess he had to be energetic to clean up the broken glass and olive oil all over the floor. The food was good and reasonably priced, and the environs were pleasant. If we had been in Menton a few more days, we probably would have gone back. The place was recommended by the concierge at our hotel.

We were happy to get a table without a reservation as the restaurant was very busy. We each had a three-course offering. The appetizers were okay--onion tart or tomato/onion are the ones we chose. The entrees were off the charts! I thoroughly enjoyed by truffle ravioli, and my husband's pasta with chunks of perfectly cooked stewed beef were very good. My chocolate moelleux dessert was fantastic. And my husband's cafe gourmand featured 4 of their best desserts plus espresso. The local wine was also quite good.

Here's what we tried:- - Niçois speciality of stuffed vegetables : Tomatoes, courgette and aubergines - Mixed Seafood main course : Fritto miso, grilled squid in pesto sauce, smoked salmon - Montagnard burger - Andouillette - Desserts : Tarte au citron and Île flottant We really cannot fault the food, everything was delicious and portions were quite generous. Their desserts are really good - don't finish your meal without having a dessert, especially when you're in France! :) Service wasn't great - they were full house which is a great sign for a restaurant however it's no excuse making us wait more than 45 minutes for main course, and seeing other tables that arrived later being served firs...

We were four and somewhat late but our table was still there and as requested. Since we booked on the internet we had a twenty percent discount, not bad. First drinks, then oysters and Petit Chablis, the fourth passanger has squash doughnuts. Fresh oysters, crispy doughnuts, fish bread. Then three of us had lamb chops, we were advised a local red, very good advice at that, two were happy but the thirds not, that particular lamb consisted only of fat. They had ran out of lamb so they would take of the order from the bill but no alternative was offered and no excuses. The coffee was excellent and served with a little sesame seed cookie, my wife had a creme brule the size of a kitchen zink but...

"the location was attractive. a small picturesque square slightly in draw with a foliage and Mediterranean charm. the restaurant had an outdoor terrace but we decided to eat inside. rustic decoration well maintained. abundance of natural stones and plaster walls of rustic color, nice vaulted type ceiling and terracotta tile floor. We loved him. the kitchen was visible on the path of the toilet and everything seemed chief, busy and good omen. Unfortunately, it's the end of the good news. My wife chose to start with the anchovies leaf and I am the raw ham. The anchovie was not good. Very strange flavor. Too salty. hard dough background. My ham was cut too thick, making the meal difficult. I had to ask for olive oil and gem salt. certainly not the best ham I've had. no comparison with parma or iberico. disappointing. the main dishes were the fish pot and the spaghetti with ceps. Both were a disaster. The fish were cut off. filled with small but important bones. the two rather sad gambas were small and boiled to death. the portion of fish and the quality at the price were bad. Maybe the bisque was swept. The pasta was not good and we left them. we paid 72 euros for this and a very small glass of medium wine and a bottle of flat water. I think chin food is usually not good. French are rather complacent and seem to believe that their historical reputation is enough. Not if. the area is very frequented by tourists and I guess most are unlikely to return to the area, so they think they can get away with it. It's a shame and I couldn't recommend this restaurant. we visit the family regularly to chin, so we would like to find a decent restaurant at a reasonable price. even our family seems to have a bad time. Why? It's the france."
