"I was looking forward to trying McKays Fish Chips, especially since this beautiful new annex was added. It looked really great so I was buzzing to try. I popped in for chips and onion rings to takeaway. It was absolutely heaving, that was fine, was happy to wait. But as I waited I saw them serve two queues of customers without getting to my pretty simple order. I was waiting for minutes. For chips. When I eventually got my order it was laid out on plates despite asking for takeaway. I mentioned this to a staff member who took her hands and crushed the chips into a cheap takeaway box. The food had been left out on these plates so everything was cold. I was supposed to add my own salt and vinegar but there was hardly any space so I just left. I watched people coming in, see the chaos and just walk out again. It was just pretty miserable. Also, the onion rings were for five onion rings? What a waste of time, money, and energy."

The best chip shop in Pitlochry in my opinion. Have been here several times on visits and never disappointed. Great quality fish, really nice crisp batter and good chips. Never last long enough for a picture! I typically go for a standard supper, large is genuinely large, even my partner who has a big appetite goes for the standard. Yes it's not the cheapest chip shop but you do get what you pay for here.

Popular fish and chip shop in the heart of Pitlochry, which has the added benefit of an eat in cafe attached. Very large portions served, though the menu is very limited for the usual chip shop fayre. Food is served on cardboard plates with wooden cutlery'. The cafe itself is smart, clean and airy so comfortable enough to prefer to eating in the car ! Wheelchair accessible too with plenty of room inside and there are parking spaces for the disabled across the road. No toilets in the cafe but they are available in the attached Inn. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming so in all we had a very pleasant tea.

I honestly don't understand why places like this manage to stay in business. Took my son there for dinner last night he got the kids fish and chips and I got chips and macaroni. The chips and batter tasted like they where cooked at home in a cheap deep fat fryer that needed the oil changed non of that chippy tast at all literally disgusting and hard lumps in the chips that was raw. The macaroni came separately in a tub that you would expect to get curry sauce or gravy in which was clearly thrown into a microwave however was still look warm and tasted of nothing but double cream and chalk. I'm not in anyway fussy eater and not to complain however that was the worst food I ever had from a chip...

"We visited the lounge bar. I remember the bar having a wonderful selection of single malts several years ago. But this time, it was quite different. First of all, the menu lists many many whiskies that are not available. The names are not spelled correctly and the prices don’t make sense. The core range whiskies are at a very high price and some whiskies, like the Laphroaig 25, are listed at 18£. When we asked for it, we realized the price is actually 170£ on one of the menus (it’s been corrected by hand, and highlighted but only on one menu unlike the four other menus). They also didn’t have it anyway. The staff was really really nice and tried to help as much as they could. But they didn’t know what to do, as the « whisky manager » wasn’t there. He probably hasn’t been there for a while because the menu is not updated at all. The friendly staff asked us to follow them to see the whisky collection which is located above the heater. The wooden cabinet is very very hot and you can notice condensation due to heat in the bottles. What a shame. A lot of the whiskies in the collection are not on the menu. And the waiters have no idea about the price. They have to contact the whisky manager to ask for information every time we ask for a price. In the end, we get to order nice drams. But it took us more than 30minutes. We’re in a region where many people come to visit distilleries. They really have an interest in trying nice whiskies. And this bar was such a nice place for that in the past. It’s not the case anymore. One of our friends wanted to order a glass of port wine. The prices listed were insane. We then realized it was the bottles and not by the glass. On other wines, there was a price for the bottle and a price for the glass. But here, nothing was mentioned. On top of that, the menus are dirty, have stains and fall apart. This is not what you’d expect from such a place. This is unacceptable for a 5 star hotel. I want to thank the two waiters who did their best to help us. This situation is definitely not their fault. And they had to find a way to make it work because somebody else did not do his job. I’ve been here many times in the past with professional people working in the whisky industry. This bar was such a beautiful place. But it really felt like a joke on this very last visit."
