"We visited Sidmouth on 19th July with my wife's god-daughter and her sister. Having spent some time on the beach we wanted to have a meal and The Mocha was right in front of us so we decided to eat there. The menu said that they were serving up to 3pm and we went in at 2.50 so we all quickly made our choices and I went up to the counter to order, arriving at 2.55. There was one elderly gentleman in front of me buy a coffee. However the server seemed to be having some trouble making the order and then the gentleman had some issues making his payment resulting in my arrival at the counter at 3.01, literally 3.01, one minute past 3pm, only to be told they weren't taking any more food orders as it was past 3pm. I argued that I had been in the queue for six minutes and that I would have ordered before 3pm if they hadn't taken so long to sort one coffee order out but to no avail. The member of staff in question was very abrupt to the point of being rude and it was quite clear she could not be bothered to take our order as other staff were dashing around clearing tales and it may have resulted in the staff having to wait for us to finish our meal before they could close up. If they are not going to accept orders up to 3pm then they shouldn't state this on the menu and I have never been in a restaurant or cafe where they refuse to take an order which would have exceeded £60 after I had joined a queue before the closing time. They are lucky they can afford to turn away over £60's worth of business. The customer service here was zero and would not recommend visiting a place where the staff are so rude or so unhelpful."

We've visited many times for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. The food and service is 2nd to none, and the seafront location is perfect. 5 stars!

We stopped here after a walk along the sea front and saw the cream teas sign, when in Devon will have cream tea! so we stopped and were pleasantly surprised, the scones were a lovely size, very fresh, and just the right amount of cream and jam. Small point but the toilets are also very clean and tidy. I would highly recommend.

What a fantastic coffee shop offering so much more. Prompt service, even with people queuing out the door. This was due to the popularity of the place as you don’t take long to be served. Plenty of food being ordered and a comprehensive menu on offer. We had coffee and cake which was served with the right attitude, friendly and helpful. The layout of the place is pleasant with plenty of room for each table. We will return! Ver carta

We regularly pop into Mocha for coffee and cake. Great coffee and brilliant location. Such a shame that thr owner and his male assistant never acknowledges or welcomes us. In fact. they are both more often rude and abrupt. The attitude they convey is that customers are an inconvenience. About time they attended a course to refresh their hospitality skills...or move on out if they detest running the business so much. The female staff are mostly very pleasant.

Rotten attitude towards Alzheimer’s/mobility issue customer. As a family we have been patrons over many decades, mother in law in particular only for us to be told ‘sharply’ that we couldn’t sit at a round table for six we were three. I explained mother in law had mobility issues to be told ‘it was only three steps’. Yes she was correct, the miserable waitress/owner, however there were no seats on the first higher level hence taking the lower larger table! On our previous visit where we had a full fish meal the male we were served by reluctantly give us water with our meal legally they did as they have to but we were given the smallest glasses! Once bitten twice shy but we did try again for...

"We had two dinners and breakfast from this restaurant because we stayed in the Home Farm Hotel. We wanted to have the dinner and breakfast during our stay, but had to cancel our plans due to VERY POOR customer service received from Richard and also...because of his wife's cooking due to overcooked and burned full cook breakfast we received from the restaurant. Day 1, Richard introduced his wife to us, but she totally ignored us and in addition, she did not even bother to acknowledged and smiled with us. She seems to be very upset or very distance from everything or stressed/fed up about something at the time. Not sure this was due to over working… Day 1, Richard requested us to come down stairs for the dinner at 18:00, but instead of taking us to the restaurant for dinner, he tried his best to hard sell the alcohols he had in the bar to us and also to all the other guests. This happened even after we told him several times that we only want the meal and no alcohol from his bar. After about two hours, I had to tell him that I’m a diabetic and heart patient therefore I do really want to eat the meal and have a rest. He gave us the menu and I asked for lamb which was on the menu and he went crazy and said to us that they do not provide English food in this restaurant. I showed him what was on the menu, but he did not even apologise to us. He said lamb run out and asked us to select something else from the menu, again we selected duck, but that was run out as well!!! By then, Richard was sarcastic and rude to us as well as to other guests… In the end, we asked what we can have for our dinner. He almost shouted at us saying he and his wife only there to run the hotel without any staff therefore, we have to eat whatever his wife can cook!!! Finally, at about 21:00, we managed to have our dinner and I asked Richard to cancel our breakfast and dinner booking for the rest of the days however, he said we have to take the breakfast for next day because it was too late to cancel it. Next morning (Day 2), we were near the restaurant since 08:00 as Richard requested but as usual, past 09:00 we received burnt and overcooked full breakfast for two of us. They had a very large menu but it seems like most of the food either his wife did not know how to cook or had run out. Richard charged full price for our meals, BUT he FORGOT to provide the good quality food and services to the customers…"
