"In one of those serendipitous moments that make for great holidays, I came across the Oranium cafe while following my nose to check out an interestingly looking building I saw from a distance. That building turned out to be the Neue Synagogue, which is one of the most significant places of interest in Berlin, if not in Europe for its role as a center of Liberal Judaism and during Kristallnacht program of the Nazis in 1938. After visiting the current Center, I needed a place to stop and gather my thoughts and gain some sustenance for the rest of the touring day. And that's when I discovered the Oranium. Stepping through the heavy black-out curtains in the door called to mind stepping back in history, which is enhanced by the design of the place from the magnificent bar to tasteful Eastern European decor. Plus, the food is diversified, tasty, well-presented and very economical. Well worth a stop!"
