Pastaio - Carta

The food was good, and they offer a separate vegan menu. This is an update from my previous review on May 12, 2024.

Delicious pasta, trendy place, friendly staff, clean tables and not too expensive for the area. Definitely going back.

the service was excellent and we felt really looked around here. the waiter knew the menu back to the front and was super helpful and attentive. really nice atmosphere and I always appreciate a good playlist. eating was absolutely spot on I can not recommend the crabs linguine enough. I'm just sorry I didn't order one of the Prosecco pads. Ver carta

For my main course, I ordered the aglio e olio pasta dish. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed as it lacked flavor and the pasta was very al dente—almost to the point of being chewy. I had high expectations based on how amazing the food looked in photos I’ve seen on social media; perhaps I simply chose the wrong dish. I would definitely like to return and try another vegan option. Overall, it was a lovely evening out. Updated from previous review on March 3, 2024.

I was happy to see a dedicated vegan menu although it wasn't 100% clear whether everything on it was completely vegan or if some things were vegetarian, for example I asked about vegan desserts and was pointed to just one of the 2 options on the Veg menu. I had the vegan Carbonara, the concept was good with crispy tofu bits instead of bacon, but I found it too salty for my taste and lacked much other flavor. I like al dente Pasta, but the spaghetti was understated. My omni partner says his meat Ravioli court was Blande, I think in general they need to be back their season.

I ordered the vegan carbonara, and while the idea of using crispy tofu bits instead of speck was great, I found the dish to be too salty and lacking in overall flavor. I enjoy al dente pasta, but the spaghetti was rather undercooked. My partner, who does eat meat, said his meat ravioli was bland. Overall, I think they need to work on their seasoning.

I decided to try the vegan meatballs, and I have to say, they were phenomenal! The meatballs were large and possibly the best I’ve ever had! The pasta was unique, and you could really taste that it was homemade and fresh. The tomato sauce was tasty but quite simple. My mother tried the tomato pasta dish, which she enjoyed, but again, it was basic and lacked sauce, while the fresh pasta was definitely a highlight. My portion was generous, especially with the meatballs, but my mother's dish was noticeably smaller. While they did have some vegan dessert options, most of them were sorbets or ice. I was really excited to try Pastaio as I had seen all the amazing vegan pasta that they had on offer. However, I was quite disappointed by the size of the vegan or ‘green’ menu. There were quite a few starter options such as olives and focaccia but the pasta/main dish options were lacking (only 3 options). There was tomato pasta, courgette or meatballs and they said on arrival that they didn’t have the courgette pasta due to stocking issues so there were only two options which were both tomato. I had the Vegan Meatballs which were amazing. The meatballs were really big and the best I’ve ever had! The pasta was really unusual and you could tell it was all homemade and fresh.
