"I visit pennells quite regularly with friends so I decided to take my husband for a treat. We had a coffee and a tea, two tea cakes and a slice of lemon meringue. All was well until my husband tried his cake which was awful, it cost £5.50 so we spoke to a staff member who dealt with the situation very efficiently and swapped it for a slice of egg custard and reimbursed the money difference. The egg custard was also awful, thick pastry and an odd textured custard topping. I do think if you’re charging £5+ for cake it should be of a reasonable standard. The staff in the restaurant are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble, the meals are amazing but please don’t spoil the experience with sub standard cakes desserts"

You had better be hungry! Our hefty portions of delicious forest fruits cheesecakes had to come home in a box; We were so stuffed after a first class beef and onion pie. The food all looks amazing and our choices were scrumptious. We are late to the party as this is a busy thriving restaurant and rightly so.

We went in for coffee and cake .. two lattes, one slice of banoffee pie and one slice of lemon meringue for the heart attack inducing sum of almost £17 , and all served up in the most charmless way possible. The banoffee was mostly whipped cream and biscuit base with one or two slices of 'ban ' and a microscopic sliver of 'offee '. The lemon meringue was soggy and the lattes were warm and milky but sadly lacking in much coffee. Fairly woeful really ...

This is a good garden centre, also a place for finding gifts, cards etc. Friendly staff. What lets them down is the coffee in the restaurant. We have been several times and are always disappointed by the coffee, eg if you order a cappuccino what you get is just a milky coffee. This is not the fault of the staff but rather the management, who obviously have invested in a proper barista machine but failed to offer their staff any proper training in how to use it!!

I visited Pennells Cafe on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 and ordered a ham and tomato panini with salad and chips. It was absolutely delicious, especially the chips. The following day, Sunday, October 2nd, 2022, I enjoyed a roast pork dinner with a variety of vegetables, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, and gravy. It was a good meal. On Monday, October 3rd, 2022, I decided to try one of their tempting cakes and opted for the coffee and walnut cake, which was very tasty. The staff were happy and friendly. I will definitely be going back soon.

Been having meals here for a few years as they were good and reasonable price. I used to enjoy a vegan lasagne but when I had one last time it was only warm and texture was horrible. Husband had fish and chips and chips were cold. Went again in case it was a one off but it obviously wasn't ! My husband went for pie and veg and they served him it without mash, they thought he said he didn't want and apart from that the bread was dry on my sandwich. Maybe iff they hadn't. been chatting between themselves they would have got the order right. They could also put large knives in one cutlery tray and the small blunt ones in another. It is handy for us to go here but will only have tea and coffee n...

"Attended a family wedding here recently. The restaurant, the location and the facilities were top notch, I think you would have to work hard to improve on what they have achieved here. However, the bar staff in the first floor function suite leave much to be desired ! Their attitude and reaction to the wedding guests during the wedding reception and evening event should definatly be improved ! It began with the sullen faces of the waiting staff during the reception , most should learn how to smile only one lady waitress blonde hair new starter was polite and smiled give her a job in staff training We asked for a bread roll during lunch, to be told, only for guests who have ordered soup ! Eventually after asking again they brought two over for the brides father... The evening event was a challenge when we struggled to understand why the part bottles of wine had disappeared from the table, when most of the guests were drinking spirits and beer etc. The penny , or should I say the C £17,000 dropped when the waitresses were removing full glasses of drinks from the table without checking! When challenged , the nonchalant response was to place the drinks back on the table and march off like petulant teenager! Our dismay was amplified the following day during a conversation with the restaurant manager told us , that 's what we do, If you need to keep your opened bottles of wine on the table you need to let us know , otherwise they will be removed! oh, so the wine is cleared along with the newly poured drinks too then? I don 't think we, or anyone else we know have ever been to a restaurant and even thought to tell the waiting staff not to take the half bottles of wine away before they have been emptied ? This usual practice was not discussed when we booked ! A cynic could suspect they re sell the newly recovered wine by the glass. This said, the manager did compensate with two bottles of the brides choice , so thanks for recognising the issue. But please consider NOT removing part bottles etc without checking in the first place."
