"This place is truly a gem. As a native of the northern region with deep roots in Kent, this restaurant brings me back to my origins. The food is fantastic - I tried the Bison Pie (a departure from my usual fare) and it was delicious! They also have a great variety of real ales that are always top-notch. The staff is friendly and incredibly efficient. If you appreciate wholesome food and a welcoming atmosphere, you definitely need to check this place out. It's worth the train ticket just to experience it."

It's British Pie Week! After National Toast Day, it is the second biggest food event in the calendar.

Just look at these pies! Beautifully crisp pastry and fillings crammed with flavour. A pretty decent beer list too...

This restaurant is great. I have been twice when they were showing football games. They have a TV screen at the end of each table and a wide selection of beers to choose from. Ver carta

The pastry at Pie Ale was perfectly baked and full of flavour, so any guilt I might have experienced eating the incredibly generous portion was soon forgotten. The Steak Ale filling was savoury and the gravy was rich, but not as copious as I would have liked – although I am probably overly fond of sauces.

We enjoyed delicious food at a higher price when we visited this restaurant on a Monday. We took advantage of the £9.95 deal for a torte and a pint, and both my partner and I loved the food. Everything tasted fresh and delicious, especially the gravy. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick. We will definitely be coming back!

it was something surreal to find me wandering around the northern quarter ende mai on the look for eating inspiration and deciding that a torte would really hit the point. gott bless the summer in somester. pie and ale is part of the bakerie family hidden in the hive mini arcade like narnia in the cabinet behind the main restaurant in the lever street. Recently reopened, the Pie Ale Pub offers delicious dining at reasonable prices. I was craving dessert when I decided to visit, and I tried the rabbit pie which was excellent. The pub is clearly popular, as it was packed with customers the night I went. Despite being busy, the staff were friendly and attentive. In conclusion, I would highly recommend visiting this pub.

I have a love/hate relationship with pies. As a sufferer of chronic heartburn, the very sight of such an amount of pastry makes me want to sit in a bath of milk. On the other hand, my favourite dish as a child was a bean pie. This was a steak pie from Greenhalgh’s, emptied of its filling before stuffing full of baked beans then putting the lid back on (my brother and I should invent

"Alborz is a wonderful hidden gem in Levenshulme that serves a variety of Persian and Middle-Eastern food, located on Stockport Rd you could be forgiven for thinking that Alborz is as unassuming as it's humble exterior suggests. However, what lies behind those modest doors is truly fantastic restaurant both in terms of food and service. The interior is understated and tasteful, furnished with Persian vases and ornate tea sets, the tables are close together to make the most of the limited space available but this lends a refreshing communal atmosphere to your meal. The staff were friendly and attentive and more than happy to talk you through the menu and explain the various dishes. We ordered the Mezze Platter to start, this consists of four different starters, and is ideal if you're not overly familiar with Persian cuisine, the homemade hummus was a particular highlight being both fresh and tasty. We then ordered the Alborz special grill for two, which looks as wonderful as it tastes, succulent skewers of koobideh and chicken accompanied by grilled vegetables, saffron rice and a freshly baked taltoon bread which was frankly quite ridiculous in its magnificence and is so large it came supplied with its own stand. This was a true delight to eat and I can highly recommend it. After all of that, we were overloaded with food and couldn't possibly consider having dessert and so, asked for the bill, which led to true surprise of the evening, all of this wonderfully authentic and fresh food came to a grand total of £42. This reflects tremendous value in a time where a meal for two can often prove quite expensive. Overall I would say that Alborz is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and if you're not well then it's worth making the trip for. If you're a fan of Persian food or perhaps want to try something new then you would genuinely struggle to find such a quality dining experience at this price point."
