"Visited last night with 2 other family members. Felt uncomfortable from the time we got there as the handle on the front door is broken so waited for a member of staff to open the door for us. She opened the door but did not acknowledge us or greet us with “hello”. We were shown to our table and given menus and drinks menus but nothing was explained. I asked if decaf coffee was available and she said that she would check. She then disappeared and came back a few minutes later to clean tables. I then asked if she had asked about the coffee and she said that they did not do decaf so why did she not come back to tell us. We then placed our order and when we asked what flavours were available for our chicken she just pointed with her pen to the menu. There was no interaction or smile from her at all. My niece had not visited before and commented that the staff were not friendly and didn’t seem too happy to be working. The food was served quickly, was very tasty and hot but don’t think we will rush to return due to lack of customer service"

So there is a rude lady at the front, who judges you and will not let you in if you have a child with you. And her rudeness has no limits.

Food was terrible and the service was awful. We complaint about but the waiter didn’t seem scared to deal with the situation so we said it’s fine and we won’t EVER go back Ver carta

The restaurant had a perfect setting with outdoor seating near the canal, excellent atmosphere, and a great food and drink menu. The food and service were outstanding. I ordered the chicken with a side salad and chips, and the presentation, quality, and quantity were all perfect. I will definitely return to this restaurant.

Group of 6 of us went. Food is nice but menu is very limited. It’s decent value, a main is around £9 Cocktails are 2 for £10 and are very nice . Lovely decor inside . A gripe for me is that the smoking area is the front of the testy so you have to walk through plumes of cigarette smoke to get in out. Just needs re-thinking.

Nice restaurant, good food, reasonable prices. Many items were not available, such as Pina Coladas, Coleslaw, Veggie burger. We were told they were out off stock. The lemonade drink was lovely. Seating is tight and if you need to book.a table ie: more than 10, theres a £50 deposit required and you have to go into the restaurant to pay, they will not take payment over the phone so this in itself is an inconvenience. Came here in good faith having never visited before. The chicken was actually really nice. The piri sauce was sweeter than expected but the meat was very moist. The chips were actually the best part of the meal, being served piping hot and tasted very fresh. The halloumi had no colour from the grill and the garlic bread was essentially bread with melted butter on. When we raised this we were told it’s not the chefs fault, that sometimes they have problems because that’s how it comes to them. It was however, taken off our bill. Wouldn’t visit again.

It used to be really nice here. Lovely looking restaurant on the canal and good food. But now it’s a mess, the front door has no handle the staff are rude. Crowds of people smoking smoking weed outside on their benches and some staff with them. The staff have no interest in being there. A waitress dropped our food on the table and I had to walk across the restaurant to ask for Mayonnaise off her. Chef prepared one plate 10 minutes before the other and just left under the hot lamps while they prepared the 2nd meal. The food was ok, not much chicken in the chicken wrap. Food is very Salty, nearly £4 for 3 small wings. The chips are good I’ll give them that. Won’t be returning again. It’s a div...

"This was our first visit. I have to remind myself that this is a training environment for students but there should be someone in charge, who is identifiable to direct the students on how to present a menu and how to place a dish in front of customers. However, four courses for £35, amuse bouche counted for one course. Amouse bouche lacked any seasoning, orzo starter, well cooked but again lacked seasoning. My wife had fish, Coley, which was nice. I had chicken breast on a bed of curry sauce with hassleback potatoes. My whole dish was luke warm at best, the curry sauce was overpowering, and the hassleback potatoes were not crispy. The chicken was lovely and moist and I ordered a side of triple cooked chips which were super hot, expensive at £4, I only wish the rest of my dish was that hot. I had cheese and biscuits which consisted of Brie, blue cheese and cheddar together with chutney. My wife had Pain Perdue which was well presented and tasty. The restaurant is more like a cafe, not cosy, so don't choose it if you want a romantic evening. Overall would I go again? probably not. If you are ever near the Lake district try to book a table in the restaurant at Kendal College. On a final note; there is parking on an evening next to the college. Drive up to the barrier and press the call button, security will let you in. The barrier opens automatically on exit."

"6 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 children went here for my mom's birthday meal. Mom chose the place as she's been here before. I wasn't sure what to expect from her description so I checked on here before leaving work. I have never seen so many 5 star reviews and hoped it lived up to the hype. We arrived at 7:30pm after driving through a pleasant housing estate. The premises are located on the ground floor of a community centre, next to the gym. The illuminated GIOS sign was the only clue. Upon entering, we saw 4 other tables were occupied, with 12-14 other patrons. The interior decor was unusual, with countless pieces of artwork, movie posters, and unusual items with an Italian theme. The tables and chairs are all different shapes and sizes, but this just adds to the charm of the place. Within a minute, Gio emerged from the kitchen with a warm welcome. We sat down and opened the drinks we had bought with us, the place is not licenced. Soon, we had ordered the taster menu for the adults and the youngsters had pizza. First we had a lovely, fresh vegetable soup, with cold meats, a crustless quiche and lovely warm bread. Not long after, Gio, who was the only waiter, came out with the kids pizzas. Freshly made and delicious, and about 12 of thin crust. Then he bought out 2 large lasagne, 2 large plates of a pasta dish with courgette, 2 plates of plain chicken thighs and breast on a salad with crispy chicken skin, 2 plates of another spicier chicken with skin, on a bed of delicious herby potatoes, and an Italian casserole with sausage and meatballs in a tomato sauce. Food was plentiful and delicious. Gio packed the leftovers up as there was a lot of food, all made fresh in the premises. We then had a chat as Gio served everyone else, without looking stressed and being so friendly and polite with everyone. He also gives a carafe of water and a carafe of juice to each table. Italian music playing, he then produced a dessert with was like a warm brownie, with thick, clotted cream, a fruity drizzle and an amaratto biscotti on top. The ladies and gents are located next door where you walk through a healing centre, with chairs creating a walkway to keep you from the various equipment. As I said, the kitchen and restaurant is in a shared community centre. I was told profits go to local homeless, and it's clear from the decoration that Gio does a lot for local charities. Mom picked up the bill of £13.50 a head (massive value) and Gio said the kids were only a fiver, but mom asked him to keep the rest which he eventually did after some persuasion. When the main rustic Italian tasters were served, Gio also served two more fresh pizzas at no cost, which he says they always do for larger groups. I have plenty of leftovers to take to work today, and we all left full after the kids plated the piano and Gio and an older customer danced in the restaurant. Three pots of fresh coffee to finish. A lovely place, beautiful fresh food, amazing value and it serves the local community. Great job, Gio!"
