The food is still excellent, and Miah is a fantastic waiter who is happy to offer recommendations to customers. The new management made a wise choice to retain many of the best dishes on the menu while slowly adding new options. It was a wonderful evening out.

Recommended by our cab driver, so gave it a try, vast array of dishes you name it they do it. Nice decor, and quite cheap for what we had. Set meal for 2 people £32, more than enough food, although the onion barges were overdone and just fell apart. Few people in there for a Wednesday night

I used to love this restaurant, but after my recent visit, I will never go back. The new owners have ruined it with awful food - undercooked chicken and frozen samosas are just a couple of examples. Four different tables walked out tonight because of food issues. Stay away if you care about your health. Ver carta

Take away order not delivered. I rang The Raj and asked them if they could help and they said no, nothing to do with them, not interested. I advised that I have had a weekly delivery for at least 5 years but they repeated they were not interested. So disappointed never using them again as they do not value regular customers.

I visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening and unfortunately, received an unwelcoming greeting from the staff. We were seated at a small table that was too cramped to hold all the dishes we ordered. The food did not meet my expectations, especially the keema naan which was doughy and unpleasant. The restaurant was very busy, noisy, and felt claustrophobic.

Have to say that after eating curry’s all over Essex for 30 years this is up there with the best take away curry I have had ! … recently moved to Brentwood and I’ve ordered 3 times from here and last night was so good I was recommended it to everyone in the whats app group . I was pleasantly surprised ! Me and the mrs order a set meal for 2 which is very reasonable and add on a few things but the food is always fresh and not that greasy. Whilst this restaurant normally receives good reviews these have changed recently. My friends and I chose to ignore this 'downward trend ' (well a few unhappy customers could all visit within a quick succession can 't they) but we were wrong to ignore the signs. To be honest the starters were fine but the main courses were average at best and the paratha are best avoided (they weren 't anything like the ones I 've ever experienced in elsewhere and were pretty stodgy and thick). Don 't get me wrong, the food is edible, you won 't go hungry but there 'll be nothing memorable either. However it didn 't help that the staff were so surly. I have been using The Raj with a group of friends for over 15 years and sadly standards have slowly declined to the point that we question whether to go there or not. Last Friday I ordered a King Prawn Pasanda which arrived looking like a bowl of custard, which I questioned, but was assured it was pasanda because they could see the rose water . The prawns were not cooked properly and the sauce tasted disgusting. Let me start off with the staff ,really friendly and accommodating,we’ve tried most of the indians in Brentwood and for ages have been wanting to try here,we were sat quickly just before our booked table time, on sitting down they laid the table the tablecloth was clearly stained and had a hole in it,popadums came and to be honest was nice with the mint sauce onion salad etc Ordered King prawn on puri and chicken chat for starters when it arrived there was 4 prawns with I’d say 3 spoonfuls of sauce,a really poor serving my chicken chat on puri was ok but the edges were crispy as if it was under a heat light for a while,the table to our right had their mains delivered only to hear them asked...
