Ideal City venue recommended to book, good menus small portions, but worth it

Good value 3 course menu in smart location; only downside is the that the toilet is two floors below

Excellent lunchtime menu for £25. Beautiful food and very good service. Our waitress recommended an lovely bottle of wine so good we had two!

Octopus and liver salami starters fantastic. Also the desserts I would never forgot! The waiter Giovanni is very professional, we had a lovely service .

The Royal Exchange is a beautiful building in which the Sauterelle is located on the first floor overlooking the ground floor bar area but with glass screens at one end so that there is no intrusive noise. The food and service were very good we will revisit...

Wasn't our first time and certainly won't be the last. This time round everything was exceptional. From a smiling receptionist, to the friendly waiter to the food. Lamb was a beautiful option as was my partner's red mullet. Will return and will recommend over and over again. Thanks for wine recommendation!

I think the cook is in love, because the food was pretty salty. Good for him, but bad for people who come to eat. We asked for a surprise for two people who celebrated their birthday. We had to remind them to check the reservation and then they only have a surprise... That was terrible. Usually you get a small cupcake and a candle, but here we are writing a little strawberry and a happy birthday in chocolate. We didn't expect anything big, but that was pathetic. The venue is very nice, but I have to give them that.

I like the Sauterelle, which is nearby and has always provided a pleasing level of refinement without being fussy. On this occasion, we were kept waiting at our table for a nearly 20 minutes before being even offered a drink or having an order taken. Service, this time, was a touch brusque. Perhaps some front-of-house staff had gone missing, leaving the rest under pressure. The wine-list seems to have been pruned recently (although I may be wrong about this) and is both lacking in variety and frankly expensive. Food remains very good, and the ambience is still discreet and pleasant.
